General Discussion / Day of the Week Results
« on: July 08, 2013, 02:22:31 am »
So, I was a little bored and thought I'd run a quick analysis on day of the week results so far for just my team, New Jersey Athletics.

What did it show? Well we perform much better on weekends being 39-26 on Fridays (14-8), Saturdays (13-9) and Sundays (12-9) combined (anything to do with more fans at the games??) - Watch out West Virgina, all 6 games against us are on these days in September!! We also have Ohio and Ontario 3 times on weekend days.

We also suck heavily on Mondays (5-11) and Wednesdays (6-14) - easy wins for North Carolina (4), Kentucky (2) and New York (2), and are pretty much .500 on Tuesdays (11-10) and Thursdays (7-6).

Thankfully we've played nearly 50% of our games on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays or who knows what position we would be in.

So some September predictions:

1-0 v Massachusetts
2-5 v North Carolina
2-1 v Ontario
2-2 v New York
4-2 v West Virginia
2-1 v Ohio
0-3 v Kentucky

13-14 in September to finish 81-81 :(

Couldn't find one of these so thought I'd start it off.

I'll be away on business from June 21 until June 24 - I might not make it back in time to export for the June 24 sim. Just a heads up.

I'll keep this updated with guys I'm happy to move on.

TRADE BLOCK
The Big Boys
Listening to offers for 1B Tim Schroeder, I've only just started playing him there, he'll pick up a decent position rating there if given some time. He still has a good enough bat if you've got a spot needing to be filled at 1B.

Draft Picks

Hitters

Pitchers

NEEDS
1. Pitching prospects
2. Youngish ML infielder
3. Draft picks

Team Press Releases / New Jersey Athletics Season 2013
« on: June 02, 2013, 08:06:28 am »
With Spring Training out of the way it's been a great run for New Jersey. While the pundits have the Athletics tipped to challenge for the league title the lack of offense could prove costly, especially if the rotation gets struck down with injury.

However an 18-6 record in ST has confidence high in the club, but hopefully not too high. We all know the pennant isn't won in March, not even June, it's going to be a long season ahead.

Promising signs for the Athletics during ST were:
- Conceding the least runs of all 16 AFBL teams (74, Texas next best at 83)
- Scoring the second highest amount of runs in the AFBL (153 to Indiana's 162, with North Carolina third with 120)
- Four shutouts
- Veteran starter Bob Thompson going 5-0 from 5 starts
- Star SP Jorge Sepulveda pitching 20 innings without giving up a single earned run (2-0 record, OAVG .106)
- Starting rotation going 13-3, with Thompson, Sepulveda and Soto not losing any games
- Team ERA of 2.93, giving up an average of just .214 and 17 HRs
- Team batting average of .291, OBP .351
- Dan Swain with a league leading 29 hits and 18 RBIs with a .362 average

While we know that the Athletics' GM, Mike Trigwell, is focusing on pitching and the defence, he will have been excited by how well his hitters performed. Especially with Swain and Joe Hunter leading the RBI table (18 and 17 respectively).

The rumours coming out of New Jersey are that there won't be many surprises when the GM names his 25 man active roster, with the only contentious decisions around the pitcher versus position player split and the mix of outfielders versus infielders.

One player in particular who will be vying for one of the bench spots in the outfield is Joe Ross and with the ability to play first base the veteran has to be a good chance, this is what he had to say "I've done everything I can to put my hand up to get a spot on the team, it's all in the GMs hands now. Hopefully he appreciates the effort I've put in and can see how I can contribute to the team".

It's not long now until the roster is revealed for the long away trip taking in Ontario, New York, Ohio and Massachusetts.

During both ST sims please don't bring any replacements onto the 40 man roster. If anyone goes on the DL, just leave the roster as it is.

Team Press Releases / New Jersey Athletics Load up on Talent
« on: May 25, 2013, 07:48:45 am »
Extract from www.njathleticsbc.com
The New Jersey Athletics were given the 3rd pick in the Inaugural Draft of the AFBL. The serpentine style draft means a lot of time between picks at stages, however the Athletics GM has made some fantastic picks during the first 5 rounds.

SP Jorge Sepulveda
Hailing from Phoenix, 26y/o Jorge is a left handed pitcher who could be a dominant force in the AFBL. He'll be expected to top the rotation for at least the next 5 seasons and may even challenge for an award or two.

SS Dax Taylor
Dax, a 26y/o Stockton, MO native, is a top class defender and has real speed while running the bases brilliantly. He's a good all round hitter at the plate as well, he can find the gap, get on base and has the ability to send the ball over the fence, likely will find himself in the number 2 or 5 spot in the order.

CF Martik Geboyan
Martik is another speedster drafted by the Athletics. He'll be top of the order for sure as he's adept at getting on base and is incredibly choosy with the pitches he swings at, however possesses no power of note. The 29y/o from Pennsylvania is also a gun defender, capable of excelling in all outfield positions.

C Dan Swain
An interesting choice by the Athletics to take a catcher so soon in the draft, however Swain is one of the better catchers in the league and carries a pretty decent bat with him as well. He makes the trek to New Jersey all the way from the West Coast, Lemoore, CA to be precise. At only 25 years of age he looks to be a talent for not just today, but also tomorrow as well.

SP Dave Boyer
Another player from Pennsylvania (New Castle), however he still has room to improve at only 24y/o. While unlikely to win any awards he'll put in a good shift and with a great defense behind him will notch up quite a few wins.

The first five Athletics are pictured below in their splendid home uniforms, sporting the NJ moniker on their left chest.

Team Press Releases / Baseball in New Jersey
« on: May 15, 2013, 08:00:22 am »
Baseball in New Jersey, it just has a certain ring to it.

Elysian Fields, Hoboken 1845, possibly the start of baseball as man came to know it. Now baseball is back in the proud state of New Jersey, with the announcement of the New Jersey Athletics joining the AFBL.

The Athletics will be based out of New Brunswick and within reach of the entire population of the state, truly a team from the state, for the state.

The organisation will mainly keep to the state of New Jersey, however the AAA team has been placed in Delaware, in the city of Wilmington, where the Eagles will play.

For the AA affiliate, Trenton becomes the home of the Owls, and Hoboken has the Single A Falcons making their home there. In the Florida Rookie League the Sarasota Wolves will hope to be the breeding ground of the stars of tomorrow.

The Athletics will wear will be decked out in Egyptian Blue pinstripes, sporting the famous NJ logo, with Yellow caps at home and full Egyptian Blue uniforms with Athletics across the front, away from home.

The logos for all teams within the New Jersey organisation have been announced, while the uniforms for the Athletics have also been revealed, with a couple of fine bat-boys modelling the new kit.

An announcement will be coming soon about the new stadium at New Brunswick.

Also a big thanks to those over at OOTP Mods, I 'borrowed' some of the logos from there and adjusted the team names to fit with the teams within my organisation, all credit for the original design goes to them.
