Iowa to Move to California
Corncobs will become the Mallards
(DES MOINES) - In a somewhat shocking press conference this morning, the Iowa Corncobs have announced plans to relocate from Des Moines, IA to Los Angeles, CA. The Corncobs will be renamed the Mallards in the process, effectively becoming the California Mallards come 2023. Ownership cited the teams poor performance and depressed fan base as the main reasons for the relocation. Once they move to California, the Mallards will play their home games at the Duck Dome. The Duck Dome has been rumored to sit 42000 and will have a closed roof at all times.
"We know that some fans are going to be upset by the decision to move the Corncobs from Iowa, but baseball is a business and we're only losing money by staying in Iowa. We hope that the team can move to California and capitalize on a region of the country starving for some baseball." said team owner Ralph Wall.
The Mallards will play in Los Angeles, with the minor league affiliates playing their games in San Diego (CA), Tucson (AZ), Santa Barbara (CA), and St. Petersburg (FL).
After the Golden Eagles left a few years ago, the California region has been hungry for baseball and they'll finally get their wish in 2023.
