May 21, 2014- Bronx, NY (AP)

The New York Brewers announce the promotion of SP Cisco Castro to AA Bronx, where he will start tonight against the Trenton Owls. Castro was drafted #2 overall in the 2013 First Year Player Draft, and was ranked the #65 prospect overall at the start of the season. Castro was 3-4 for A Staten Island, but put up a 2.19 ERA in 8 starts, good for a 216 ERA+. He will replace the struggling Juan Ruiz (0-7, 10.26 ERA) in the starting rotation.

In an effort to build excitement during the final week of a dismal season, the New York Brewers announced the promotion of several rookies to the major leagues. Wu-Shiun Xi, Brian Wilson, Tommy Lambright and Angelo Bejerano were promoted along with highly touted prospect Cisco Castro, who spent time between A and AA for most of the season. Curt Hardin, who was converted to a starting pitcher in the NY organization after pitching out of the Massachusetts bullpen in 2013 will make his Brewers debut this week.

Several rookie bats were promoted as well. CF Shawn Morrow will be available after putting up 4.4 WAR for AAA Brooklyn in 2014. LF Rodrigo Herrera and RF Jeremy Crowder will also get their first taste of big league action.

"We waited a bit to call these guys up" said GM Joel Schrock. "We've struggled this season to gel, and it didn't make sense to disrupt the locker room with 15 additional guys. However, it does make sense to give them a taste of what they are working for."
