Initial Draft Discussion
« on: May 17, 2013, 11:49:41 am »
Hey guys!

We now have all 16 owners that have checked in with their franchise's information so we can not go ahead and schedule the league's initial player draft to fill our roster.

We have a couple of ways we can do this... start the draft as a live draft and go 5-25 rounds to at least get our ML rosters filled up then finish the draft via the forums or Statslab.

What is everyone's opinions and also availability the next week to get a live draft scheduled? If you wouldn't be able to make the live draft, you can always send me lists or have the CPU pick for you. I'll get a league file together over the weekend with the draft pool so everyone can start preparing.

Thanks guys!

Tuesday is best for me.  I can't promise I'll be there or be able to finish the live portion, but Tuesday is the best chance of it for me.

As I'm based in Australia, what time are you thinking of starting the live draft (please tell me the timezone as well) and how long in time will it typically run for?

I can then do the timezone conversion and check my availability or clash with sleep times ;)

I  work shift work and next week I am working at night and leave for work at 2:30pm EDT and get home at about midnight.
Any morning would be fine, but will have to go with what is best for for the majority of people. Will a file be released prior to the draft. If so I can look it over and send a list to the commish if the draft is held during the evening hours.

Yes. I'll get a league file and reports up as soon as I can. Hopefully by tomorrow so everyone can start scouting their players!

Much as I enjoy live drafts, I'm not sure one is going to work out for our initial draft -- we've got people all over the world, and it just seems like scheduling an agreeable time would be awfully tough. I'd go with a forum-based draft for X rounds (at least 10, maybe as many as 25), ideally with some kind of time limit. Not perfect, and slower, but still.

For amateur drafts, I'd say stick with live if we can -- it's less of a thing to miss one of those.

I tend to agree with this.  The downside though is it could take weeks to complete.

Agreed.  I think a forum based initial draft would be best.  Live drafts might work better for the amateur drafts later on.  Another reason for a forum draft for the initial draft is from the looks of things there are a few GMs that are new to OOTP, so a forum draft would probably be best to ease the GMs into starting out.

I agree with the notion that a live draft for the initial draft will prove to be too difficult to get everyone there. We'll do a forum/Statslab based draft with owners on a pick time limit with CPU selecting a player if the limit is reached.

I'm slowly trying to figure out/configure Statslab for the league so hopefully I'll get it set up tonight/tomorrow. I do have the league file up on the site at the top right of the forum and I'm uploading html league reports now.

Thanks guys!
