Title: 2022 Discussion Thread
Post by: mstreeter06 on November 29, 2014, 01:24:50 am
We have finally reached the 2022 season as the Colorado Bears will work to defend their Federation Cup title which is their 3rd championship in 9 seasons of the AFBL's existence. As we enter our 10th season as a league, will we see any new faces enter the playoff picture and will Texas & New Jersey continue their impressive playoff streaks?

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and hopefully a good remaining weekend of the holiday break.

We will NOT have a sim on Monday due to the late arriving post-draft file. 1st half of Spring Training is on TUESDAY, 2nd half of Spring Training is on WEDNESDAY, and Opening Day 2022 is on FRIDAY. From here, we'll be back on our normal Mon-Wed-Fri sims with exports due at 6am CT on sim days. Thanks guys!

New file is up with Reports and Statslab coming up before I decide to go to bed :).

Reports got updated last night and Statslab is now updated.

You must get an export in for at least 1 of the Spring Training sims and then it is a mandatory export for Opening Day on Friday! Good luck this season!

I forgot to grab exports before manually entering the draft last night. Sorry guys!

I also must have never hit submit for season awards in the game (gdamnit) so the Most Valuable Pitchers are both incorrect unfortunately. I wish there was a why to fix this and my same mistake from back in 2014 and 2015. Statslab will show the correct votes in the voting history.

come on man! that was my only good news of the season. Can you fix that? I want to see Ron Taylor as best pitcher in the league and with all his awards when he goes to the hall of fame

:'( :'( sorry but unfortunately I don't believe there is a way to fix this. I could have sworn I already entered and saved these before the draft but obviously it didn't  >:(.

Spring Training starts tomorrow morning. I want to see every GM get at least 1 of the 2 ST exports submitted and then everyone with the mandatory Opening Day export on Friday. Good luck this season!

FYI - Jari Udinga and Giuseppe Cirilli both went to my International Complex and my team transaction log had me selecting two different players in those draft positions MR Yi-Xiao Zhen & SP Randy Williams, but they appear to have been released already.

Yeah I had to select a scrub when manually entering the results since I couldn't import them.

Forgot to mention that due to this, any international guys drafted were placed in the team's international complex since I had to sign them instead of getting included in the import process.

Next draft and beyond will correct this. I know how that the import draft function doesn't work once you start manually selecting guys.  ;D

The 1st half (14 games) of Spring Training is complete. New file is up with HTML Reports and Statslab coming up as soon as possible. Nearly a perfect export (18/19) so thanks guys!

We'll finish up the 2nd half of ST tomorrow morning and Opening Day will be Friday which is a MANDATORY EXPORT.

I don't think stats lab can figure out who won MVP award because it says on Derek Andersons stats lab page that he is a back to back MVP winner but Murry is also a MVP winner for 2021 I know DA finished 3rd so maybe stats lab is seeing that as a win idk

OOTP15 started reporting the top 3 vote finishers in the SQL dump instead of just the winner.  The problem is, it does that without differentiating between them.  There are some ways around this but that requires a bit of a rewrite I don't have time for and it really should just be fixed.

I also screwed up the Awards for the pitchers in the game. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to fix any season award voting in-game mistakes.

The way to 'fix' it is to only enter the 1st place winner in each award in-game. Then statslab will just have 1 winner each year. But this also means Matt has to ensure he manually enters the awards each year :D

if you add ALLLL of Rodiers career up... its close to Ratz last year. it doesnt help that Rodier is an extreem platoon split and never get anywhere near the at bats that Ratz does...but to compare them is insane

Let me rephrase going into this last year, he had been close offensively to Ratz against righties and was a great second bat. His defense kills his WAR along with time off against lefties. Either way, Hopefully Tsai has a good year and this opens a spot for one of my young guys to come up and make a difference.

Nah, just a hobbyist... as I always say I only manipulate logos and such, I'm not making these from scratch. The skill is more in searching for the right existing logos and identifying how they can be used for what our needs are.

There was a forum mod/addon that failed and messed up the index.php file for the forum last night (damn my tinkering, sorry guys!). I put in place a backup I had of it from August which fixed the issue of accessing our forum boards. I still see some weirdness in some of the admin functions so at some point, I'm looking to do a fresh board install then merge our board data into that. Just a heads up of what's going on with that.

The Tapatalk mod/addon seems to be problematic as well so this might be an issue too. Sorry to those that use this function of our forum.

I just created a group for AFBL on the chat application GroupMe (mobile app and web) and sent out an email invite link for that. I'll make this available to everyone for daily chatter and such to see how it goes alongside the forum. Create an account and download the mobile app if you wish but it's certainly not required!

The forum will still be the main place for information but it will also be posted in GroupMe to help everyone stay connected. Thanks guys!

I hate that the game is so stupid that it does this
a - J. Talley pinch hit for J. Bennett in the 7th
b - E. Evans substituted for J. Talley in the 7th To play 3B like why couldn't Josh play 3B and Evans didn't even have a rating at third till after this game OOTP needs some better Mangers.

so I finished off a 7 game winning streak a lost the last 6 games of the sim 8-8 on the year seams like a streaky season already

Might be another year of a good fight in the PL North. Our bats are hot right now, I don't expect that to continue. At the moment when we score lots of runs we win most of the time, when we don't score many runs we lose most of the time.

1st in runs scored in the PL with 113, and 10th in runs allowed with 80. Our bullpen ERA is fine, if our starters come to the party we have a very solid and young core group to work with for years. Not quite championship calibre though, would need a lucky playoff run.

A little more like it with a 4-6 sim.

Jeremy Emery off to a decent start in his big league career, 4-1, 3.68 ERA.

Jeff Cahill sent down to AAA for more "seasoning," guess I forgot to redo the lineup there because he only had 9 ABs .

With about 1/5 of the season completed...
1.) Can Maryland continue their pace and join the postseason party in the PL South as they fight off West Virginia and Virgina?
2.) Will Pennsylvania win the battle with New Jersey and Ontario in the PL North without forgetting Ohio?
3.) How much longer will Colorado's core of veterans hold on in the FL West against Oregon and New Mexico?
4.) Could the potential best team in the AFBL, Indiana, claim the FL East as they fight Iowa, Texas, and Kentucky plus keeping their eyes on Illinois?
5.) What about any of the teams not mentioned? Will someone get red-hot as ride that streak into a postseason berth?

There is plenty of time for everything to change! Good luck everyone!

Ron Taylor injuried ... btw, he lost another match with 1 run allowed. I think that we have here a clear bullying case because their teamates always play worse when he is on the mound

4-5 blah...

At least Jake White is starting to get some hits and Gil Russel is continuing to make me second guess my attempts to bring in another 1B.

Our starting pitching is still what is letting us down, and despite Jeff Flowers grabbing 2 wins form 2 starts that sim, his ERA is still above 6 and he might be for a demotion if anyone in AAA decides to put their hand up.

The next month or so will be crucial in determining if we still have the talent to make the playoffs or if we'll be in no mans land - 6 games next sim v Ontario and Pennsy will be a pretty good gauge as well.

The bats stay hot, the bullpen is firing, but our SPs just give up way too many runs at the moment.

Maybe, just maybe, Bob Allen will find his way from AAA to the rotation.

All-Star Game voting is due by the 12/31 sim so please vote as you have time between now and then. This is a mandatory item as a AFBL member so take the 5-10 minutes to cast your ballot.

OOTP File, HTML Reports, and Statslab are all updated. We have reached the halfway point of the 2022 season as we enter the All-Star Game break. Please get your ASG ballot submitted in Statslab by the next sim (12/31) start at 8am CT.

Current blank or incomplete All-Star Game ballots (minimum of a full ballot for your league but certainly able to vote for both leagues)...
-Iowa
-Illinois (partial ballot)
-New York
-New Mexico
-Georgia
-Virginia

Just a reminder about the All-Star Game voting process...

-Top vote getter at each position will be the starter and the 2nd most vote getter at each position will be a reserve.
-Top 6 SP and RP vote getters will be part of the ASG pitching staff for each league.
-28 players on each league's ASG roster.
-DH will be chosen by the Commish or a high vote getter that isn't a starter.
-Anyone that is voted in but hurt will have a injury replacement join the ASG roster going to voting results first before going to Commish decision.
-Any position with an unanimous selection will have its reserve chosen by the Commish.

Tommy Carr is currently at 3 days of injury with 3 days before the all star game.  Whether he plays or not, it will be great to have him back in the lineup.

Ooh I like that idea. Anyone oppose? My only issue is that the voting ends the day of the sim. The defending league champs would need to have an answer ready that day.

Don't forget to check your AFBL pitching staff if you had an All-Star Game pitcher. The game removes the player from your staff and doesn't return him to his role for some reason.

every year the fucking Mendoza injuried at the end of the season. this guy is a fucking retarded

the funny fact of this month was that Hill won the FL best hitter trophy with 11 HR, 17 RBI and 18 runs scored. If we take a look to their season numbers, that is simply unbelievable (22HRs so he hitted half of them this month, 48 RBIs and 40 runs scored)

Another ex-Athletic coming back to haunt us :( Sepulveda did it and so did Charlie White that sim... 1-9 was terrible and puts us 2 back in the Wild Card race.

This isn't an issue so far this season but just remember that any player that is draft eligible is unable to be claimed as a FA until after the draft. Just a heads up as we finish the regular season.

Sim is about to start!

when I see the leaderboards in the standings, Ron Taylor is not there with the lowest ERA in the league. He has just 1.59 and the "leader" has 2.25 (Jim Ojima)

Texas is fighting and this week we have an "easy" schedule on paper comparing with what we had in previous weeks. Im sure that there will be a disaster ... typical texas

Taylor must not meet the qualifications

To qualify, a starting pitcher must have at least 1 inning pitched per game that his team has played (you've played 130+ games, Taylor has only pitched 120 something innings).

To qualify, a hitter must have at least 3.1 plate appearances per game that his team has played.

We go 5-4 in my first sim...though...my first export will be next sim....

At 9 games back of the last wild card with only 23 to play...it doesn't look like we will make the post season this season. My goal is to get within 4 or so games back of the post season...tinker with the team in the off-season and make a run for the playoffs in 2023.

New file is up and HTML Reports are updated. Statslab is still working and will be updated soon.

There are only 2 regular season sims left. We will conclude September on Friday and then finish up the remaining October games on Monday.

Season Awards voting will be enabled in Statslab today. The voting will conclude at the end of the playoffs so please get your votes cast by then!

There was a good point brought up today in our GroupMe chat about the chance of a three way tie for the final wildcard in one or both leagues. If we do end up with a three way tie after 162 games for the final wildcard, there would be a round robin tournament to decide the winner. All of this is still fluid so no need to worry about it yet, just wanted to make all aware.

If things are still right after Friday's sim, I would not be opposed to breaking up the final 5 day sim into two 3 day sims to allow those in the battle for postseason position to make final game adjustments. If we do this, it would be on Monday for October 1-2 then Tuesday for October 3-5.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I would hate for a team to not get in due to something dumb done by the CPU.

SIM SCHEDULE CHANGE/UPDATE

I'll pause Friday's sim on September 30th instead of October 1st so Friday's sim will be September 21-29.

Monday's sim will be September 30th through October 2nd and we'll pause after those 3 games.

Tuesday's sim will be October 3rd through October 5th which will be the final 3 games of the 2022 regular season.

AFBL Rules page has been updated with the previously posted on the forum in Oct 2014 guidelines for relocation and franchise detail changes plus adjusting the required GM approval percentage for any league rule changes made in the Winter Meetings from 60% to 2/3 GMs approval. I feel that this is a necessary change for a true majority that we can change without any big freakout now :). Sorry about the late notice!

It will be an interesting final 5 or 6 games for those still fighting for the playoffs.

We have tight races for...
FL West winner (Oregon up 0.5 game on Colorado)
FL #1 seed (Oregon up 0.5 game on Colorado)
FL WC2 (Texas leads Iowa by 3 games and Illinois by 4 games)
PL WC2 (New Jersey and Virginia are tied for the spot and both lead Maryland by 1.5 games, NJ and VA have naturally split the season series at 5 games a piece)

Locked seeds are...
Indiana: FL #2 seed (clinched FL East)
Pennsylvania: PL #1 seed (clinched PL North)
West Virginia: PL #2 seed (clinched PL South)
Ontario: PL #3 seed (clinched PL WC1)

FL WC2 (Texas leads Iowa by 3 games and Illinois by 4 games)

It is simply amazing how the Isotopes are now leading Iowa and Illinois after a very tough season. A lot of injuries lately but somehow we managed the situation, not being a great team but just a little bit better than Illinois and Iowa (both in a bad streak now). 2 series, 6 matches where I think that with 2-3 wins should be enough for us.

btw, thanks Matt for the last sim ;) jaja

Monday's file will include any trades and FA claims plus the Season Awards manually inputted.

Season Awards are due by Monday's sim. Ammy Draft timer starts Monday at 8am CT with a 6 hour window for the 1st and 2nd round. Announce your 2022 Team MVP and fill any missing years Team MVP as you have time.

New file is up that includes the 2022 Season Award winners, the 2 trades that have occurred recently, plus the FA claims. We won't have a new file released after today until we finish the draft.

Please be aware of where we are in the draft throughout the day. If you know you'll be busy... please have a long enough list in Statslab's draft queue, set yourself to auto, or send me instructions. I really don't want to have anyone holding up the draft for long periods of time. I want the draft to be completed by next Tuesday, February 3rd.

Here's the timeline for the rest of the 2022 offseason leading up to the 2023 season...

-finish Ammy Draft by Tuesday 2/3 so I can import the draft results, process any trades and FA claims, relocate Iowa to California, apply any franchise changes to logos/uniforms/stadiums. I'll release a new file whenever I get all of this done

-Spring Training 1st Half (14 of 28 games) on either Wednesday 2/4 or Thursday 2/5

-Spring Training 2nd Half (final 14 games) on Friday 2/6

-Opening Day 2023 on Monday 2/9 so we can get to our normal Mon-Wed-Fri sim schedule (10 OOTP calendar days otherwise noted)
