Title: 2013 Discussion Thread
Post by: mstreeter06 on May 24, 2013, 08:09:09 pm
New league file has been uploaded with draft results through 7 rounds (located at the top right of the forum, extract into your saved_games folder). Let me know if you have any ballpark, logos, or anything to update to the game while we continue to draft. Thanks guys!

Hey guys!

AFBL's 2013 season is about to begin when league opens up with the 1st half of Spring Training tomorrow (12 games thru March 13th on the game calendar) May 31st in the morning, this will be my first live online sim so be patient with my first few sims  ;D).

I have the online reports up (link on the right of the forum as 'Standings/Reports' but there is a known OOTP14-html reports bug with the team's pitching staffs only showing the rotation. No solution for this yet but I'll keep investigating on this issue.

If you need to send me updates to your franchise and don't have a copy of OOTP14 yet you can send me instructions via the forum board and I can make adjustments for you on my end. You should check out Chappy's NC instructions for an example.

I think I'll run the 2nd half of Spring Training (final 12 games of ST then sim until Opening Day)on Saturday or Sunday so we can have our league's inaugural Opening Day sim where I'll run the game 10 calendar days (April 1st thru April 10th).

Let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thanks!

Is there an updated league file, or am I just doing it wrong again?

I'm using the latest League File but am still only getting the first 7 rounds worth of players within the game.  Yes, I'm probably playing the newbie card again.  :)

UPDATE:  Never mind, I didn't update from within the game...I'm getting the hang of this.

Did you update from within the game? Maybe try to download the file at the top right of the forum, extract into saved_games and then try to update within the game again?

You won't see the changes in statslab until after the next sim is run.

You only need to update your league file after each sim, there hasn't been a sim yet (except to get to the end of the draft).

I think what you did was make your changes, export your league file, but then reload the old league file over the top. I recommend only using the "Update league file" from within the game, this way it checks to ensure you have the latest copy of the league file.

Just remember, you only need to update AFTER the commish has completed a sim, currently he has only simmed once, to get us to the first day of spring training.

Great, will you have an export cutoff time of 30 minutes or 60 minutes before that? Just got to plan as 6am CST is 9pm for me - which works awesome, however if cutoff for export files is 4am or something I'll have to get mine in a lot earlier.

Yeah it's definitely going a bit haywire.. I tried the linked league file up the top of the forum, but that just sends me back to a file at the start of the inaugural draft.

I'll try again soon, or once you send an email saying all is good.

I had to adjust the link to the 'Standings/Reports' at the top of the forum page. Chappy and I found that OOTP14 changed a path which threw us off.

So the HTML reports are up as well! I'll run the 2nd half of ST this weekend (Sat night or Sun morning) so we can have our opening day on Monday!

Let me know if the game file is or is not updating correctly within the game. Thanks for your patience this morning with my first sim haha!

Ah no that hasn't been updated yet. Just in the game! You can just update within the game after each sim. I can update that section to be more clear this morning. Thanks!

Help appreciated to get me back on track.

That should be how most teams currently are I'd think.

~~~~
I've added/updated a few minor things...
-ability to add social network info to your forum profile
-added your franchise's name and logo for uniformity
-changed Statslab setting to auto determine last sim to display full results (was showing 8 games instead of full sim)
-updated background image for HTML reports
-fixed images
-also remember the HTML reports (Standings/Reports link) doesn't show ST results/stats, check in Statslab or in game for ST info!
Thanks guys! 2nd half ST sim exports due by 10pm CST tomorrow!
Title: Re: 2013 Discussion Thread
After our ST performances, if I can keep the starting rotation healthy I've got to be thinking playoffs. Biggest danger is our lack of production with the bat, however in ST we shot that to pieces, but how often do ST performances translate across a full season.
So in summary - yes a top 3 spot in the league is the goal and expectation, anything less will be considered a poor season.
Just noticed you asked for my owner expectations, not mine.. DOH! I can't find mine ingame as I can't get an updated league file. I update ingame and it keeps giving me the 15th March file.
The box scores issue is most likely tied to the number of days in the report... prob needs to be 15 or 16.  The development problem is interesting to say the least.
I found the issue with some of the ST box scores not showing. I had a setting off in the game itself. I have reuploaded HTML reports so the box scores should be displaying correctly now!
The development ratings in Statslab will hopefully resolve itself after the next sim. I'm still looking into it currently. Thanks for your patience guys!
Version 14.3 Build 12 here too.
This is exactly what I did:
- Reloaded the pre Sprin Training league file BEFORE ST
- Exported team fine for ST
- Updated league file in-game for the midway point of ST
- Exported team ingame
- After 2nd half of ST I clicked "Check for Updated League files" in game, it went through a downloading mode, and said "league successfully updated" however game date still shows as March 15th
1st regular season sim has been ran from April 1st through 10th. HTML reports and Statslab updated! Update your league file from within the game. I have an updated Images Pack uploaded to the website (link at top right of the forum) so you can download and extract into your 'saved_games\AFBL.lg' folder (this is the 'news' folder part of the AFBL.lg file). Thanks!
Really appreciate advice on what might be causing this.
Hmm I think we should try closing the game and deleting the AFBL.lg folder from your saved_games folder. Then download the League File from the forum at the top right of the page then extract into saved_games and try to update from within the game. I think we might be fighting an old version that is cached or something?
Title: Re: 2013 Discussion Thread
Post by: yuda on June 03, 2013, 08:30:16 am
It does sound like a caching issue, but I'm not really sure where/how things would be getting cached.
If deleting the file doesn't work, I'd post on the OOTP forums for tech support. Personally, I have no idea what might be going on.
I think I found the problem. Can you try 'check for updated file' in the game again for me? There was an old AFBLfile.tar.gz sitting in the root of the afbl folder on the server dated 5/31 which would probably be the 4-1-2013 file.
Hmm sounds like a plan since I'm out of ideas.
Are there other owners that are having this issue as well?
Colorado Bears (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/reports/news/html/teams/team_2.html): C Steve Haworth (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/reports/news/html/players/player_2845.html) was injured while throwing his alarm clock across the room. The Diagnosis: oblique strain. He's expected to miss about 2 weeks.
I have finally figured out how to get the Export Tracker in Statslab to work. This should go when your latest export was submitted or if your export is out of date. Thanks!
http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/exports.php (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/exports.php)
It'll show that you are up-to-date if you send me instructions on the forum after I input the instructions then export your team via ftp. The teams I have manually exported are: Colorado (myself), North Carolina (Chappy), West Virginia (claphamsa). Let me know via the Sim Instruction thread if you need me to manually perform any roster moves. Thanks!
texas is back on track again! 8-1 in this sim and a 13-6 in the whole season
against oregon we won 3 matches with a important disadvantage in the scoreboard (one 3-0 and two 4-0s). my players are crushing the ball and we have now 33 home runs
in the dark side of the team are the weak starting rotation and that we are doing a lot of errors (4 in a game for example ... omg!)
it must be said that i have played 14 games at home and only 5 in the road
Yeah well done Boyer, then he lost his next 2... lol I still stand by my decision to start him though, 2 hitter in your first ML start is a sign of great things to come I hope.
It looks like we're only above .500 thanks to the games versus our neighbours in NY (5-1 on the year so far), against all other teams we're either +1 or -1 from .500 - very tight league so far.
What about the 3 RBI home run Boyer hit off Buchanan when we played Kentucky (we lost though) - I have found my pitchers doing really well at the plate, has anyone else seen this with their hurlers?
For example Sepulveda has 5 RBIs, 9 hits and 11 total bases and a .375 average while also pitching 8-0 with a 1.94 era.
Pleased to see someone has worse hitters than me. We're 5th in average and on-base %, but that is getting worse month on month. Thankfully we have the best rotation in the league 2.76 ERA to get us by but the lack of production is very worrying, especially from guys who should and can do better.
They had one game go 10, one go 16, and one go 21 innings, and won all three of them!
Don't worry the rubbish Athletics are available for slaughter in the next sim - you've got our number so far this year and our hitting just gets worse and worse.
.264 in April
Oh well back to the drawing board to get these guys hitting and on base.
Colorado and Arizona went to extra innings tied 6-6 after the Colorado tied it in the top of the 9th with 3 runs. The Bears put up a 10 spot on the Alpines in the top of the 11th with homers from Foley and Pham to end up winning 16-6.
We lost our starting LF Jesus Felix for a month and a half (.269-15-59 in 88 games) and lost a series with New Jersey 2-1, but given we had 9 tough games I'll take a 5-4 sim.
I've seen a lot of inconsistency out of pretty much all of my players, lol.
I'm a bit of a stat head so finding the stat of the day in statslab I found some really interesting stuff, hope you all enjoy.
Is the secret to the Isotope's success due to a new strategy of SP use? (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=348)
And of course, Texas tops the list of most relief appearances (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=34)
It's not just pitching, the Isotopes really shake their roster up! (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=361)
Do the Patriot League pitchers have it in for the NJ Athletics? (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=354)
Julian Parra - great ratio of hits to K's (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=19)
Curds Campos the biggest thief in the league! (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=24)
No support for Rusty Sanders, why won't his team mates drive him home? (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=26)
Jorge Sepulveda - the AFBL Workhorse, more than 7.5 IP per game (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=40)
Steve Davis - Mr Butterfingers (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=48)
Will Sal Atkins ever hit his weight? (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=57)
All the Stars come from Colorado (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=96)
Cummings can hit for three, but he's no thief (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=118)
He's slow, can't clear the fence, but can get on base - Colm Ferrell (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=138)
Will Curds ever clear the fence? (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=166)
Haas can't even buy a walk (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=207)
Gray makes his home runs count! (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=220)
NJ still looking for someone to nail down LF (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/statOfTheDay.php?fact=293)
My team is good with OF switching back and forth from minors to majors and my starters dont walk any body and my bullpen is the best in the majors i think. if my hitting comes around with pat and cole and my SS comes of the DL we could make the playoffs and be a force this year.
Had to share this...
37y/o LeBlanc (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/development.php?player_id=1886)
So he's had a crappy season, hardly played, hitting poorly when he does, and in the last sim he just jumped from a 2star player to a 4star player. Improvements in potential and actual rating for 3 batting stats contact, power and gap - WOW.
He might just get a start next sim to see if he's really any good or it's just an anomaly.
texas is going bad to worst lately. the players who have been injuried are not playing well and with almost all the starting lineup in this situation, the bad results are coming. september will be longer than i expected
the amateur draft pool has been released. any thoughts???
Yeah this draft pool isn't great. Only 10 players who have more than a 2 star potential rating. Hopefully this changes as we get closer to draft day (Nov 15th in the game).
Correct, 2 wildcards per league.
Wildcard races in both leagues are tight and should go down to the final sim!
Definitely, Patriot League has 4 teams fighting for one spot... we've also only got 3 teams above .500, and really it's only two teams.
So its a 4 team race for your WC spot because NC looks like they are ok to make the playoffs and i have a 9.8 chance of making it while Kentucky on has a 3.5 chance :$ and we have the same rec, is that because my PRec is 70-66
We will likely see a pitching triple crown in the Patriot League as we have one month to go in the first season of the AFBL. Jorge Sepulveda leads the PL in ERA, Wins, and Strikeouts.
(http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/images/PLPitchingTripleCrown.PNG)
There is a small chance of a batting triple crown in the Frontier League with Fuller (IN), Robertson (CO), Garlez (AZ), and Foley (CO) all with chance to take the lead in all three categories. This is unlikely to happen however with Garlez batting .351 who would have to go on a power tear to catch RBI leader Foley or Robertson/Fuller would need to end the season with multiple hit games for basically the entire month (please do  ;D )
We will probably need 2 new owners after the playoffs due to inactivity/no response to emails (Massachusetts and California) so if you have anyone in mind who would be a good fit have them check out our site and contact me. I have auto'd the entire organization and placed any injured players on the DL for both of these franchises.
I hope to eventually expand from 16 teams after we have completed a few seasons and have a solid ownership group which we do minus a few teams.
Thanks guys!
* Oregon and Colorado are done playing for the year. Oregon won the season series 14-10.
* Oregon and Indiana play 6 more times in September, 3 in each park. Indiana leads the season series, 9-8.
* Colorado and Indiana play 2 more games, in Indiana. Colorado leads the season series, 14-7.
Colorado IF Walt Hart is still without a homer in 570 ABs.
The Bears have 5 80+ rbi guys and could get a 150, 120, two 95, and a 85 guy at the end of the year if my offense stays red hot! Hopefully our pitching can pull it together over the final 20 or so games...
My apologies for my lack of forum participation.  I just moved to Virginia Beach and finally got internet hooked up.  I've thankfully been able to keep lineups going and still compete.
Thoughts up to this point:
- The races are extremely tight.  I've got no cupcakes down the stretch and if Indiana can put up a winner record in the last 2 sims, I should be in the playoffs.
- The injury bug is plentiful.
- The draft pool is atrocious at best.
Good luck the rest of the way everyone!
In statslab... http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/teamStats.php - select your team, then select "Season" and hit go. We're .248 at hoem at .256 away, not much of a difference.
Well then.
I wanted the overall offense in my ballpark to be more or less neutral, with an emphasis on "small ball." It appears that I was successful at building the ballpark I wanted, but unsuccessful at picking a good team.
If anyone wants to send any good pitchers or defensive players my direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Apparently offensive talent doesn't work with my team.
My team doesn't strike out a lot and did give up many walks but we could kinda hit and i was ok but
Record at home    34-47, .420 PCT
Record on the road    38-35, .521 PCT
this is why a team that should have a winnng rec doesnt and when it mattered most we went 7-11 worst month by far but team is kinda young and looking for a chance next year
Some questions for the commish...
1. Is the wildcard a 5 or 7 game series? The rules say 7 games, however I believe there was discussion regarding a 5 game series.
2. What is the sim schedule for the playoffs? Do we sim a full round at a time or sim 2 home games, then 3 away then 2 home games, or something different?
Some questions for the commish...
Wildcard round is 5 game series, LCS and FCS rounds are 7 game series
2. What is the sim schedule for the playoffs? Do we sim a full round at a time or sim 2 home games, then 3 away then 2 home games, or something different?
Sim schedule is daily (or whenever all playoff team owners give me the go ahead), sims are ran for each home stand.
Sorry about any confusion. I'm in the process of doing some league tidying up so I'll be sure to check whether everything on the site is saying the same things...
The wildcard round will be a 5 game series with a 2-2-1 format with the higher winning percentage wildcard team will have homefield advantage. The two league champs will have a 1st round bye and have home field advantage against the wildcard round winner. The LCS will be a 7 game series with a 2-3-2 format.
For the playoff sims, we will break after each homestand in the series so for the wildcard round we'll sim games 1 and 2 then regroup and sim games 3 then if necessary 4 then 5 whenever all playoff teams are ready or the next morning.
Playoffs will start on Monday when the AFBL Wildcard Round kicks off games 1 and 2. We will have a sim daily at the minimum (no breaks on Tues or Thurs) or whenever all playoff team owners give me the go ahead to sim or any lineup changes.
Hopefully this makes sense! Spend the word among any OOTP friends so we can fill at least 1 opening. We do have 2 openings but I do have a potential owner lined up. Thanks guys!
I have actually simmed our league in a test league through 2020 to find that the draft pools were similar with some nice draft classes and some slim ones like the upcoming ammy draft. I've also noticed that the number of free agents available with the number of retirements has kept a good balance. It doesn't appear that we need to add any modifiers to player progression or number of players generated etc.
I will say that this draft class was one of the top 3 worst from the classes I saw during the long-term sim thru 2020.
Kind of agree, year 1 we either don't have 1 or have a forum vote for guys aged 24 and under on Jan 1st.
The game engine won't deal with it correctly I don't believe.
Oregon won't be ready to go until this evening at the earliest. At a conference all day.
I'll let you know when I'm in.
North Carolina is exported and ready to go!
Bags packed and lineups exported ready for the trip to North Carolina.
Our boys enjoy the trips away having a 44-37 record on our travels. We're bringing some strong pitchers, and some hitters that have hit some form - finally.
I'd recommend we not award rookie awards this season (or we see if the game can do it correctly). Statslab is just pulling all players -- if we want to count them all as rookies, fine, but the ROY award seems kind of silly.
Kind of agree, year 1 we either don't have 1 or have a forum vote for guys aged 24 and under on Jan 1st.
The game engine won't deal with it correctly I don't believe.
Good call about the Rookie of the Year vote. Is there a way to specify in Statslab to only qualify players under 26 or whatever?
Good luck Oregon.  Indiana is exported and ready to go for the wild card round.
I can run LWS games 1 and 2 once Oregon is ready and I'm back at my work desk :-)
No, you can only adjust it by service days, which I guess everyone in the league started with 0.
Darn and you are correct about everyone's service time starting with 0.
I'll remove ROY for the 2013 season award voting.
Well not sure how to remove ROY voting but we'll throw out the 2013 ROY winner if there are votes for it.
If you haven't already, go ahead and vote using the Statslab utility for our end of season awards. You can vote for Rookie of the Year but it will be thrown out since everyone is technically a rookie this season.
For David and Steve, your default password for Statslab is 'baseball' (no quotes). This is where we'll conduct our voting, drafting, plus is where you'll find statistics for the league without opening up your game.
We will conduct a Playoff MVP vote here on the forums so we have a record of our most valuable players in the AFBL playoffs. I'll set that up during the AFBL Federation Cup Series.
Thanks guys!
