Title: 2020 Discussion Thread
Post by: mstreeter06 on July 20, 2014, 12:16:58 pm
Welcome to OOTP15 and 2020 everyone!

Please download the new AFBL League File (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/downloads/AFBL.lg.zip) (it includes the Images Pack so it might take longer to download and then unzip) and then extract into your OOTP15 'saved_games' folder.

You must download this new full file and cannot skip this step! You will be required to let me know on the forum or via email that you have done this and also you must submit an Spring Training export!

Just a reminder... Spring Training is a total of 28 games now instead of 24 games so each half will be 14 games. Also your ST Roster max size is now 50 players instead of 40 players.

No sim on Monday, 1st half of Spring Training on Wednesday, and then 2nd half of ST on Friday. Opening Day 2020 will be on next Monday 7/28.

Reports are updated and I need to figure out how to do an SQL dump in OOTP15 then upgrade Statslab. So hold off on Statslab for the time being.

Just a heads up...

I forgot to set this rule in the game back in 2018 but for Wednesday's file, I'll be adjusting a few minor settings in the game...

-Minor leagues:
-AFBL College Feeder league:
Plan accordingly for your minor league roster sizes!

The wait is over! 2020 has begun...

New file is up, Reports are extracting, and Statslab will be updated shortly.

I did not get an export from New York or Oregon. I went ahead and called up AAA/DL players that had at least a 1.5 star rating. Please get an export in for Friday's sim!

Spring Training 2nd half sim is FRIDAY and Opening Day is MONDAY!

Any one have weird stuff happen in development with this sim? I had players that in the report say they went from like a 7 to a 1 in ratings, but it doesn't show that on their player page.

The AFBL's career saves leader is potentially out of the season, although there's a good chance he'll be back in September.

1   Daryl Clark - 301
2   Maddox Hynes - 238
3   Tony Jackson - 225
4   P.J. Phillips - 221
4   Willie Watson - 221
6   Ant?nio Tapia - 208
7   Ben Day - 206
8   Artie Gregory -   189
9   Johnny Henry - 181
10   Luis Yhuit - 177

Not a good injury for NC; we've had strong bullpens historically, but all the hits we've had to SPs over the past 4 seasons have led us to move a couple of good arms from the pen to be mediocre starters.

Oregon, your export said 'wrong version' so I assume it was not the newest file. I had to CPU your organization to get to 25 on the Active Roster.

New York, I had to CPU your organization as well. He and I are working on getting his OOTP15 to cooperate.

I'm trying out some new options for AFBL website chat. I'll see how this new chat option stacks up with the previous chat or any other options I find. Thanks!

This new chat has an AFBL-wide chatroom on the right side of the website and I believe you can start your own custom group conversations to talk 3+ team trades or whatever else :). The bottom right should show who's online and you can start individual chat sessions with users by clicking their name.

EDIT: I'm working with the developers about the chat not opening on mobile devices accessing the forum. The current workaround is to 'Request to view in Desktop Mode' on your mobile device. 8/3/14

No I don't believe so. Just giving everyone some options to easily access the AFBL forum while on their mobile. Chat will hopefully work on mobile devices in non-desktop mode soon but until then just tell your mobile browser to view forum in desktop mode.

I'm glad this game doesn't recognize and utilize "unwritten rules".  So many of them are completely asinine. The thing with Colby Lewis this year made me question how seriously anyone could even take the sport of baseball.  Also, stop intentionally hitting batters who had nothing to do with a play and stop acting like a bunch of entitled children in the way the sport is played.  Things like this are why baseball hasn't been my favorite sport in a long time.

That is all.

But after major league baseball changed the rules for Buster Posey there going to change the rules again but this time i will be happy because Andrew shouldn't have been thrown at god.

You need to upload a new file so I can log in. The ones from July 20 don't have me as an owner, so I can't get far enough to update from the league menu.

Thanks.

something is wrong when your best SP got 4 losses and 0 wins in his last 6 outings when he striked out 75 batters in 36.1 and receiving just 13 earned runs

against Oregon, 17 Ks in 6.1 innings ... and he lost!

Doesn't that just mean the bad teams are really bad?

As for us... 3rd place!  We need some better starting pitching, but I like how the rest of the team is coming together throughout the organization.  I think the 2018 draft class with Caton and Rojas as my two SP targets early in the 1st round is already looking like a major bust.

Well, that sucked.  3-6, lost two of three to NJ.

So frustrating when you have TWO starters who start two games each, and both go just five innings total for the sim. How can you last just five innings over two starts?

Texas' Ron Taylor had another 16 K outing.  He's got 3 starts this season with at least that many, and hasn't notched a W in any of them.

Kevin Garrett introduced himself to AFBL pitchers by hitting .400 over his first 9 games.  Our pitching outside of Jermaine Larson continues to stink.  Elvis Lowe continues to rake.  He's available for trade!

That huge trade seems to have been just what we needed. Haven't been above .500 this late into the season since season 1. Have good depth now and a few pieces there to develop. Playing some good teams close, winning extra innings games, but still prone to the shutout from time-to-time (as WV did to us back-to-back). Will teach me not to post about being pleasantly surprised about winning a series from them again. ;)

Somewhat sadly, Bacon Jackals seems to have won both polls about the new team nickname. Will have to put some thoughts together for a write-up.

Its fucking anoying. He is my pitcher with the worst record (4-7) and is not because his performance ... 6 losses in a row

by the way, I got a lot of players development updates and almost all of them were bad with some of them losing more than one ratings

If it's all your older guys (i.e. 30+) it's just the way it goes (all baseball players die some time), if it's a batch of mid to late 20's guys (24-29) it's just bad luck, if it's all your younger guys (under 24) it's just that what the 'scout' saw before is not quite the reality of things.

Also player personality ratings can have an impact on development and regression.

Players improve and decline it happens injury's and bad performance I have had 4 players lose change ratings Derek Anderson has finally developed so it happens and Taylor is getting no run support that's why he is losing but hey your still in first.

Also Penn has returned to normal 6-4 sim put me 4 games back of NJ and 1 up game in 2nd WC got a pretty good sim coming up need to win these games to catch up to NJ.

All-Star Game was won by the Frontier League due to a late 7-run rally. Here is the Box Score (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/reports/news/html/box_scores/game_box_7222.html) and Game Log (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/reports/news/html/game_logs/log_7222.html) for the All-Star Game.

After I praised my closer, Willie Watson on crushing the record for consecutive saves converted last season with 60, it appears that record is now in jeopardy.  Roberto Maillot of Ontario is currently at 52 straight saves with an incredible 0.56 ERA.

With two months remaining, the races are becoming pretty clear for the most part.

New Mexico is the new current king of FL West.  The Danger hold a 9.5 game lead on the Colorado Bears who have always been a playoff lock. The Bears are fighting to stay ahead in the wild card race at the moment.

In the FL East, the Indiana Vipers have won 9 of their last 10 to take a 5 game lead on Illinois (with a 3 game set against each other next sim).  Texas is 7 games back and is just one half game back for the final wild card spot.  Iowa and Oregon are 8 back in the wild card and need a huge last couple months.

Over in the PL, West Virginia has a 3.5 game lead in the South over Virginia.  Though, the Diamond Club had an excellent sim to close the gap.  They lead the wild card race with a 5 game cushion on the post season spot.

In the North, Ontario took advantage of a New Jersey losing sim to claim the lead by 2 games.  This puts the Athletics in the 2nd wild card spot by just 2.5 over North Carolina and 5.5 over the Pennsylvania Railroaders.

Whats awesome is his 0.58 WHIP :) but heres Hoping,

Awesome sim for me but weird thing happened had starters get skipped but doesn't matter still happened to go 7-4 and TAKE A 2 GAME LEAD over New Jersey wooo

1-7 August 1st-10th
9-1 August 11th-20th

That included some big wins, going 2-0 vs Ontario (70-48) and 2-0 vs NM (73-45).

Pulls us back into the wild card race, 1 GB from New Jersey.

My game has gone wonky and it may be a licensing thing. To fix it they may have to release all 3 licenses I own (which work on 6 computers total) so the 3 of you whom I gave licenses to, you may need to get with Matt and he will have the correct licenses for you if this does happen. I will let you all know when I know more.

Sorry for the inconvenience,

When your pinch hitter hits a walk off 3 run homer in a game, you know things are going your way, well done Jose Martinez, saved our bacon in that game against Georgia.

That win should count for New Mexico, at least an assist for all the great training on Martinez. In other news if the game wanted me to use my back up OFers all it had to do was ask! No need to hurt everyone.

Had a amazing week to bad it came after really bad week and NJ was good, 7-2 Joe B and Brad Fletcher were my stars getting wins I didnt think they would.

REALLY make or break week for me NJ got 3 game lead but they have OHIO and Maryland to start next weeks sim they are a combined 18-5 against them this season :(

While I Have Penn who have beaten me regularly all year, maybe I can even the season series with a sweep then I have West V who beat me in Postseason Last year and is once again having my number need to win 2 or at very least 1 because if i don't beat the Titans the last 3 games against NJ losing any of them them might just end my season long battle for a Division title.

A walk off 3-run HR by by Former catcher against the best CL in the league ruins my Chances I think for First round Home field advantage but also ruined my sweep chances against NJ.

6-4 sim i knew I just knew the I would lose to penn like always this season, Plus losing Dany Pelletier for season and Steve Downs for most of next weeks sim really hurts but least im in playoffs.

Everything is updated!

We have 6 games remaining in the 2020 Regular Season and we still have some races to decide. Here is what we know...

FL West: New Mexico clinched division
FL East: Texas leads Illinois and Indiana by 3 games
FL Wildcards: Colorado leads Illinois and Indiana by 2 games for WC1. All other FL teams eliminated from contention.

PL North: New Jersey leads Ontario by 4 games, clinched playoff berth
PL South: West Virginia leads Virginia by 3 games, clinched playoff berth
PL Wildcards: Ontario and Virginia have the same record and both have clinched a playoff berth

Frontier League has New Mexico with #1 seed locked up with Texas, Colorado, Illinois, and Indiana fighting for the other 3 seeds (CO only playing for #3 and #4 seed).
Patriot League has their 4 playoff teams locked up with New Jersey, West Virginia, Ontario, and Virginia but everyone is fighting for seeding still.

Should be a fun final 6 games!

I was really hoping to avoid 100 losses this year, but that's not going to happen.  The pitching, aside from Jermaine Larson, has been pretty lousy.

That said, we've had some nice offensive performances.  1B Elvis Lowe has set career and franchise highs in several categories.  He's got 37 HR's and 100 RBI on the year.

LF Kevin Garrett, the cream of our prospect crop, still has some room to grow, but won Rookie and Batter of the Month for September.  It's the first BOTM for us.

C Gus Chandler has struggled this year, and CF Alex Benson hasn't been able to stay healthy.  Hopefully, those guys can have a better showing next year.

I am limiting the innings that Taylor is playing so the record is not possible for Ron because of that.

As always the FL East is on fire at the end of the season ... Texas is leading by 3 but we have a tough series against Illinois now. I think that 3 wins out of 6 would be enough for us, but lets see.

This battle with Ontario has been a great one, it seems to have kicked our guys into gear and they have been playing some great baseball. SP Bobby Brown continues to put up the type of numbers you expect from a #2 in the rotation, not a #5.

Playoff seedings will be vital as Ontario has had our number this year, but WV has beaten Ontario I believe.

The fact that we've made the playoffs with this ageing roster is awesome, the fact that we could even manage 100 wins is even better, but in all honesty our regular season record against the playoff teams in both leagues is not good so we're not expecting much, but 8 straight years of playoffs is pretty awesome, looks ourselves and Texas will both do that this year.

Our record v playoff teams, or playoff contenders:
Colorado 2-2
Illinois 3-1
Indiana 2-2
New Mexico 1-3
Ontario 8-10
Texas 1-3
Virginia 5-5
West Virginia 3-7
Total 25-33

Indiana goes 5-1 in the final sim to take the 2nd wild card spot.  Will travel to play New Mexico who won the season series 6-4.

Also for Indiana:
- Tommy Carr wins his 3rd batting title leading all the AFBL, hitting .361...also led the Frontier League in OBP with a .458
- Antonio Herrera led the FL in RBI with 127.
- Juan Duran led the FL with 108 runs.
- Cipriano Hernandez led the FL in ERA with a 2.30.  He was the only 22 game winner in the FL and tied 3 others in the AFBL in wins.

I'll close the Season Award voting tomorrow morning at 6am CT! So please vote if you have not already.

Current no votes from...
West Virginia
Illinois
New York
Georgia
Oregon
Iowa (only GM vote cast)

GMs are free to just vote for award winners for just their team's league. I would like to see if we can get a 100% vote if possible.

I'll be posting the Postseason MVP vote/discussion thread and the Winter Meetings thread here this morning. Thanks guys!

I'm grabbing the final 2020 exports now and will enter the remaining draft results along with processing the trade.

I'll be rolling over to 2021 shortly after that. The new year rollover takes a while. I'll let everyone know when the new file is up which will be simmed all the way until the beginning of Spring Training 2021.
