Washington Unveils Expansion Details
« on: November 26, 2013, 11:04:59 am »
AP - SEATTLE - A few months ago the AFBL expansion committee awarded one of the four expansion teams to the ownership group from the state of Washington, and since then little has been heard about the progress of the team's development.  Today, the team held a press conference to announce that the team has been branded the Washington Resonance, and will play their home games in "The Boom Box" in Seattle.

The Resonance name was chosen to reflect Seattle's strong musical tradition as well as the physical phenomenon that brought about the collapse of the nearby Tacoma Narrows Bridge in 1940.  Accordingly, The Boom Box will seat 44,036 fans in tribute to 440 Hz as the frequency of A major and the 36 vibrations per minute that the bridge underwent just prior to failure.  The distance of the outfield fences will be at their shortest along the foul lines at 345 feet to mark 345 m/s as the speed of sound.  Team officials were quick to point out that home run hitters will have to "break the sound barrier".  The stadium will feature natural grass with a retractable roof.

Resonance team colors will be black, white, and purple.  A rainbow colored equalizer will feature prominently in the team logo and jerseys which were also unveiled.

Minor league teams will play in Olympia (AAA), Vancouver (AA), and the Tri Cities (A).  The team's Rookie League affiliate will call High Springs, Florida home.  All minor league affiliate names are yet to be released while branding is still in process.

Awesome stuff! I love the unique logos.

I have a request in to Ontario to relocate their AA Vancouver franchise to Ontario or a neighboring state or province without a ML home team. Vancouver is now in Washington territory.

I'm locating my AA team in Vancouver, WA, not Vancouver, BC, so are we good?

I've heard people from the Seattle area refer to Vancouver, WA as Van Diego, making Oregon, Washington's Mexico.  In response, Portlanders like to suggest that Washington is Oregon's Canada, as both have a Vancouver just north of their border.  I never heard of Vancouver, WA either until I moved to Portland.

This made my head hurt.

Nice back story to the team name and those uniforms and logo are definitely quirky.
