Title: Ammy Draft Pool Quality
Post by: mstreeter06 on March 29, 2015, 05:12:19 pm
It has been pointed out by some that the Ammy Draft Pool quality at the top of the draft seems to be lacking which I feel has some merit. We probably should be getting more 2.5+* potential guys to increase the value of the 1st round picks and the top of the 2nd round. My concern is avoiding over-saturating the league with too much talent.

I think an easy way to slightly improve things would be to add maybe 4 more schools in both the High School and College feeder leagues to help generate more talent coming into our Ammy Draft Pool. Any thoughts, suggestions, opinions?

I disagree with this, OOTP does a good job of balancing things... we had that crazy good first draft when feeders were introduced so any 'weaker' drafts are just balancing out the talent levels in the league.

Players grow and develop their full potential after the draft, just like some with 4*+ potential bomb.

I'm against any type of tinkering to try to make things 'fairer' as it then benefits a given set of teams at that particular time, just let the game run it's course, it's a simulation engine, not something we have to try to tweak to match the expectations of a few GMs about what is weak and what is not.

The league at the moment has the right balance of quality IMO. There's strong AFBL rosters and also strong prospects but it's not unbalanced in either direction.

Those who whinge about draft quality/depth from what I've seen in other leagues just take one look at the number of 4*+ potentials and base their draft evaluation off that, they don't actually look into the type of quality and mixes of skills of players available.

Draft quality has looked about right to me, those picking 13-20 shouldn't be guaranteed of grabbing a 4* potential... and at best a 2.5* potential who could develop is what should be expected at the end of the 1st round, knowing that sometimes it's better and sometimes it is worse.

I would like to see more guys 'close to afbl ready' - more 21 year old college players with 2.5+ star ability. Perhaps adding 2-4 college schools and leaving hs as is for now works for me.

I wouldn't change much.  Playoff teams shouldn't be getting a 5 star player in round 1.  I don't think adding 4 schools will change things too much and I would be fine with that.

I too would be against tinkering with talent levels much. I've seen an entire OOTP league have to be started over because some thought there wasn't enough talent and then it swung to all stars for everyone.

Yeah the most I would want to add (if we do add) would be 2-4 schools in HS and/or COL. I don't want a repeat of that crazy good draft class haha.

Keep it as it is.  we still have original players is the league ...  too early to tell if the drafts are bad.

I say leave as is I had a low talent solo league and i tried to boost the pools and bam i had 10 years of the good-ok players only playing 5 seasons and the stars not lasting long enough for records so I think we should leave the same

might need to try two teams initially just to see. id add college if anything. most of the talent coming in is already hs age.

Many great points by those who made them. We'll keep things how they are and watch things over the next 5 years or so.

Against extra talent.  Would make the 'reward' for losing less valuable.  It's hard enough to get guys to trade a 4th round pick.  Would be harder with more talent in the pool.
