Playoff Series Format (PASSED)
« on: June 01, 2015, 08:30:22 am »
Can I bring up a topic for this off season? This is going to sound salty but oh well.

It probably matters a lot less here than it does in real life, but because baseball is all about last at bats.....

I'd like to see us move to the traditional 2-2-1-1-1 playoff format instead of 2-3-2. I think the 2-3-2 takes away the home field advantage the higher seed has earned through a 162 game season. In a 2-3-2 format, the lower seed team needs to win just one road game in order to win the series in 5 games. However, the higher seed team has to win two road games to win in the same number of games.

Throw in the park that I had to go on the road to play 3 in a row and it gave my opponent an even bigger advantage when I should have that advantage as a higher seed.

I feel as though this, at minimum, neutralizes home field advantage and, at worst, actually makes it easier on the underdog team to upset the higher seed.

I know it sounds like I'm whining just because I lost, and I'm sure that I am to a bit, but I also feel this way in real life when it comes to playoffs and that's why its not used much at all. In fact, I believe the NBA used to use but moved away from it. The argument in real life is it saves money by only traveling twice...but that' isn't a problem for us.

This was actually a topic I had written down to bring up...

I would be in favor of a 2-2-1-1-1 format for our best-of-7 series and ditch the 2-3-2 format. You are right about the road team stealing HFA by winning just 1 of the first 2 a series.

I woudl be fine with it so long as we ditch the 'sim in home stretches' plan. I don't want to possibly have 5 sims for a wildcard series. Sim it as 3-3-1 and ignore simming by travel schedule. That way we're mostly done in 2 sims for the wildcard

I personally don't care about the sim schedule, so I'm good with that.

I really like the idea of moving to a 2-2-1-1-1 format from our previous 2-3-2 format for our Wildcard Series and League Championship Series.

Are there any objections to this? Any thoughts?
