Some nice drafting so far guys, I especially like Augusto Baca as the first pick, a very nice get by Idaho.

Baca was at the top of my list, too.

It's actually interesting watching this, and seeing which NJ Athletic will go in the first round and in what position.

Yeah definitely fun to see it playing out and the strategy of players from certain teams becoming temporarily unavailable until the next round

Good point Matt, that's probably the one failing with keeping the draft order the same in every round. Idaho always gets the first pick of the full 16 teams.

It might be a bit late, but maybe it's worth randomising the order of the draft for each round?

But then again they do get forced to pick from only one team at the end of every round... maybe it does even itself out?

That is a good point. Is it too late? Would that work for everyone? If so, what would be the best and most fair way to adjust the order for each round?

With the first pick in the expansion draft, Idaho selects, from Kentucky's AAA affiliate in Louisville, Starting Pitcher, Augusto Baca.

Well I guess I should feel good that one of my guys went first overall.

After thinking more about it I don't think there's any problem keeping it as is. Idaho won the lottery first of all, they should get the benefits that go with that, and there are only 4 teams picking so it's not a huge advantage.

I'm ok either way.  The one player per team thing and the fact that we all value players differently means that we each of us will probably feel like some players we ranked higher are getting passed over till the next round.  I already feel that way.

If you're going to change it, you probably should randomize how it comes out such that each team gets a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pick in each of the first 4 rounds, and then we cycle over from the beginning.  It's no problem for me to redo the draft order however you decide.

e.g.
Rnd 1: ID, WA, VA, GA
Rnd 2: GA, VA, WA, ID
Rnd 3: WA, GA, ID, VA
Rnd 4: VA, ID, GA, WA

That's a very good point, and probably good reason just to leave it as is. At least 2 or 3 guys will get their top 2 or even 3 selections due to the one player per existing team rule.

I like Frank's suggestion but I agree, let's keep it as it is to avoid any surprises and last minute changes.

I think when we do the next expansion we should do the following:

1) no need to have rounds, just have a draft.
2) no restrictions of one player per team per round - but a limit of 15 players per team.

The only true advantage I have here is that I can hoard one team players if I like - but as mentioned we all value guys differently so even if I did that it probably wouldn't give me any real advantage.

Also, by the time these teams are competing for a playoff spot, most of these players will be but a footnote in AFBL history.

Both very good ideas for the future.

I do think that as you won the "lottery" to get the first pick you should get some advantages, there is never a 'fair' way to draft in an expansion or inaugural draft, you just have to roll with the order you're dealt.
