Do you want to enable the Designated Hitter league-wide in the majors or keep it disabled in the majors? It is currently only enabled in the minor leagues and during the All-Star and Spring Training.
Discuss your thoughts below and vote in the poll. Thanks guys!
-
in real life the DH is an abomination...this is not real life. OOTP fucks up the way pitchers are subbed.
-
I agree. Yes to DH in ootp

I had been against this until now. I'm very for it. Add the DH.
-
I would be all for DH in OOTP and in our league.
I grew up in an NL city (STL) but live in an AL city (KC) now which has helped me appreciate the value of the DH in the real world as well /ducks.
No one wants to see pitchers bat or get hurt batting or running during a game in OOTP or in real life.
-
Only 8 votes have been cast with 6 yes votes so far.
-
I'm unable to see who has voted in the poll and only know your thoughts if you post them here in this topic. Currently there are 8 approval votes for enabling the DH league-wide out of 10 votes. I would like to see a complete 20 votes or close to it before deciding anything.
If things stay the same as we finish the 2023 offseason and as we start the 2024 season, AFBL would likely adopt the DH for the 2025 or 2026 season depending on how long it takes to get 20 votes or enough of the league to post in this thread.
-
Suggestions:
Everyone should be required to vote on all off season topics. If not some sort of penalty should be incurred (loss of draft pick, etc.) or.....
if at least 15 votes (75% of the owners) are not received on any topic then it should be tabled until the next season.
-
Yeah this topic I'm not going to act on until there's all or most of the team's voted and/or voiced their thoughts on in this thread.
-
yes to DH
-
I actually voted to enable the DH. Let's mix it up a bit and see what happens.
-
Still only 12 votes have been cast out of 20. Approval needs 14 votes (2/3 of the league) with 8 of the 12 current votes approving of enabling the DH league wide.
-
I didnt see this topic till now. I hate to see the pitchers batting because sounds stupid to me, but with the roster I have ... I have to vote No to the DH.
I have not enough batters to fill the starting lineup so the DH wouldnt be good for us and I have Ron Taylor that should be probably the best pitcher at bat in the league so ... thats why I am voting no

You can always start ron as the DH

This is how I feel. We still only have 13 votes cast.

Agreed.

He is better at bat that some of my batters ... sounds stupid but it is true jaja
yesterday Wainwright suffered an injury at bat. as I said, sounds stupid to have pitchers batting when they suck at it and they can ruin the season like he did
-
I'd be in for it
-
14 votes cast. Come on! One more person vote for this!
-
Can I vote early and often?
-
I'm fairly certain the topic will be brought up again at the winter meetings where we'll re-vote. Voting really should be a requirement, and if Matt can't actually see who has voted, everyone should be required to type out their vote.

Yeah exactly my plan
-
So probably not going to be put in for next season?
-
No it wouldn't be in place for next season if approved this offseason.
I feel as this would be a big enough change that I think it would need a full season's notice for GMs to properly prepare for a proposed change to enable the DH.
-
The forum poll doesn't allow me to see who has voted or not.
Approval needs 2/3 of the league which is 14 teams. Voting is mandatory.
Please vote here about the Designated Hitter.
-
Should we start a new count here on the forum for this off season, since we don't know who has voted in the poll already?
I am changing from previous "no" vote to "yes" vote

Yes I will be counting posts/votes only from my new post from today onward. Everyone needs to post again in this thread.
-
Yes to the DH
-
I really hope this passes this season.
-
Colorado is a yes for the DH.
-
I can't believe I am voting this way since I am a NL fan, but vote yes.
-
It's obvious this is going to pass, so I'll vote yes. I'm not sure anyone has been a big fan of the way the game handles pitchers hitting or double switches.
-
I dont like the pitchers hitting but how can I use the DH if I dont have enough batters to fill the lineup ... And the draft full of pitchers all the years.
I vote NO just because of my team cant handle the DH

I don't think this is a good reason to vote no. The change won't take place until the 2027 season at earliest I believe. So there is time to change your situation.
I vote yes because the AI does silly things with pinch hitters...

I don't think this is a good reason to vote no.
And probably is not a good reason, but it is my reason. I cant imagine my team changeing that much to have hitters in 3-4 years because I dont know how to take them. The drafts are full of pitchers and even taking a batter someday, it would be for my starting lineup so I see it as a big disadvantage for me with no hitting prospects at this moment. As I said, I have problems to fill the starting lineup with batters so ...
If the pitchers are batting, I have Ron Taylor that it is a big advantage for me because in comparison with the rest of the pitchers batting, he is an MVP :P
-
I bet this rule encourages some trades. There are players who can hit on almost everyone's team who are stuck in AAA because there is no DH.

ill trade for them DH or no! SEND HITTERS
-
I have tried to move Dana little but nobody seems interested. He is no superstar but can be useful at 1b and DH (if it passes)

yes to the DH
-
I'll vote yes, only because I see this passing and I don't want the other GMs to throw tomatoes at me.
In regards to the AI not using pinch hitters correctly, set you pinch hitter priority and it seems fine to me.
If passed, what season will this come into play? Because all of a sudden Dan Allen, Jose Martinez and Xavier Harris have gone up a bit in value to me.
-
If the DH does pass, I think it would only be fair to give everyone an entire season to prepare for the change so it would be enabled starting in the 2026 season.
-
DH all the way would still like to see non DH but since thats not a option
-
Yeah sure.
-
I vote yes despite the fact that SP Don Wilson (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/player.php?player_id=567) is one of my best hitters.
-
Yes yes and more yes
-

You can always DH a few tims a week
-
Continuing to stick with a NO vote.
-
There are 5 teams that still need to vote. If 1 of those 5 teams approves of the DH, AFBL will adopt it league wide beginning in 2026 (not 2025) to allow everyone a full season of planning for the change unless the league feels it is alright with the change immediately.
-
North Carolina is in favor of implementing the rule immediately.
-
Maryland is in favor of the DH. I'm fine with a one-year wait to implement to give pitchers a farewell tour at the plate. :)
-
Washington votes yes to DH, and no need to wait, implement the rule for 2025.

Yeah, I probably will.
One drawback to the current 7-day lineups is you can't move the pitcher out of the 9th spot in the order. I wanted to have my pitcher hit 3rd on days when Wilson started but it wouldn't let me.
-
Immediate implementation is fine with me too. Without financials you'll either have someone to DH or need to draft and develop them so not much would change in the year wait.
-
The DH will pass with at least 15 yes votes with 3 still not voted.
I'm fine with either immediate implementation of the DH in 2025 or waiting a year until 2026. I'll go with whatever is voiced the most here in this thread honestly.
-
Immediate.

Im for this

wait one year. that's what the vote was on already DH with a one year wait period or no DH altogether.
Some of us based our votes on the above statement

Agreed. The vote was actually based on this information.
-
Good points. We will wait a year before implementation. The DH will be enabled for the 2026 season.
-
I realize this has passed, but I would like to register my no vote anyway.
-

Are there 14 votes? I saw 13 in a table

I forgot to update the screenshot of the voting results. It has 15 yes votes out of 18 with 2 still yet to vote (Illinois and New Mexico).
-
The DH passed and will go in effect for the 2026 season. It is enabled for Spring Training and the All-Star Game in 2025.
