Team Press Releases / Illinois Piasi 2015 Season Preview
« on: September 17, 2013, 06:04:12 am »
With new ownership in place the Illinois Piasi are excited to get into the 2015 season. With several players returning from injury the team is poised to make a run at the division title.

Jim Sackett, Greg Hammond, and Jose Gonzales are psyched to be off the DL and ready to play 140+ games this year, providing power, speed and creating depth to a team that finished the 2014 season with a few 37 year old guys, in the twilight of the careers, getting far too much playing time.

New Faces
Pitcher Greg Teal, fresh off a 16-3 campaign in AAA should compete for a starters role this season and the club is anxious to see what Mike Wood, a 21 year old shortstop, can do. SS is not a position of need, so the club expects Wood to continue to develop in AAA this year, but a strong spring training result may force the club's hand earlier than expected.

Big Questions

1) Can 37 year old 2B Artie White repeat his massive 2014 season, when he hit 28 bombs and drove in 99 runs?
2) Can LF/1B Clarence Thomas stay healthy for more than 125 games and challenge for the HR title?
3) Will P Doug Wallace get some breaks and better his 8-16 record? His metrics were off the charts but for whatever reason he couldn't get wins in 2014.
4) What of the outfield situation? With 5 guys who deserve regular PT how will it play out?
5) Will the Canadian owner be biased towards players from the north?
6) Will the new owners be aggressive in trades and change the look of the team?

Plenty of questions and excitement leading into the 2015 season, let's get it underway and see how the Piasi fare...

Looks like 37 year old 2nd baseman Artie White was the Illinois 2014 MVP in a close vote over Pitcher Alex Bender.

Where in Indiana do you live?  I'm from Fort Wayne and lived there a good portion of my life.

Now live in West Lafayette, close to Purdue.

Sorry it was my first trade post - I hope I did better with the second one and will try to be as verbose as possible in the future.

Team Press Releases / Illinois Piasi New Owner
« on: September 12, 2013, 07:32:50 am »
Alton, IL:

New ownership has come to the Illinois Piasi. The new group out of West Lafayette, IN is excited to get rolling with the Piasi, promising no major changes for the 2015 season. There was some concern that the Canadian owner, originally from Montreal, might attempt to move the club back to Montreal, but at this point there is no indication that a move in in the cards for the Piasi.

Owner Tabachnick who goes by the nickname LT, was adamant in his denial about a potential move, going as far to claim he was a lifelong St Louis fan and never rooted for the Expos, even when he resided in Montreal. 'At this time we are excited to get into the 2015 season with this team in this stadium and will do whatever it takes to bring a winner to Illinois. Any talk to relocation is nonsense and must be ignored. We want to thank the other league owners and commissioner for approving our ownership big and wish everyone the best of luck with the on going draft and into next season.'

As long as you don't list the Leafs as something good in Ontario, we'll be cool.  :)

General Discussion / Re: 2014 Winter Meetings Thread
« on: September 11, 2013, 02:40:28 pm »
I am new, but I will put in my 2 cents:

The DH -> no, I am old school on this one.
Interleague play -> I like the idea of playing every team as long as the schedule is even. I think we'd hear complaints if we play some teams and not others.
League expansion (earliest 2016 season) -> I agree with the poster who said we need a solid group of owners before expanding...
Enable international/amateur free agents -> I like free agency, but have not been around long enough to really have an opinion here.
League schedule / number of games -> Again not much of an opinion here. I like 154 or 162 games - if we go to inter league play we'll need to devise a good plan to stay close to a 162 game schedule...

Hey,

I am the new owner of the Illinois team. Hopefully I can figure this thing out quickly and make Illinois a competitive team. I am looking forward to the challenge.

Originally from Montreal, I now reside in Indiana.
