2013 Massachusetts Americans Team MVP

The 2013 Massachusetts Americans finished the season with an 81-81 record, good enough for fourth in the Patriot League. The question of who was the team's Most Valuable Player came down to two men.

On the offensive side we have CF Rusty Sanders. Sanders played in 158 games compiling 642 at-bats with a .315/.380/.463 triple-slash line. While he lead the Americans in practically every offensive category, his 202 hits lead the entire American Federation and he had top-10 finishes in batting average (6th), on-base percentage (8th) and doubles (4th). Sanders' 2013 production accounted for 4.2 wins above replacement.

The other horse in this race is mound star Chuck Carver. Carver started 34 games from the hill compiling 225.0 innings with a 2.88 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and .222/.283/.340 opponent triple-slash. Carver again dominated the Americans pitching categories while finishing in the top-10 AFBL wide in ERA (8th), Hits/9 (3rd), HR/9 (7th) and opponent AVG (6th). Ground Chuck's 2013 production accounted for 5.4 wins above replacement.

After considering all the averages, ratios and intangibles, the old baseball adage, great pitching beats great hitting holds true - the 2013 Massachusetts Americans Most Valuable Player is Chuck Carver.

2021 Pennsylvania Railroaders MVP Announced

After a playoff season with a first round exit, the Railroaders are excited for the future. We saw two players hit 38+ homers to lead this team offensively, but one guy is man the who the Railroaders are looking at to lead this team into the future and are making him the 2021 MVP.

Without further adou, the MVP is.....

1B Rob Shirley! He had a great offensive year with a line of .285/359/541 and an OPS+ of 144 and WAR of 5.8. Oh, and he hit 44 home runs with 110 RBI to along with 74 walks.

At just 26 years old, Shirley is the man we will be building the Railroaders around for the future.

2022 Pennsylvania Railroaders MVP Announced

A great season with a dissapointing 5-0 sweep in the championship series to Indiana shows us the future is here. Last year's MVP stepped up again to make a repeat champion. Let's honor 1B Rob Shirley for his year of .303/408/543 with 37 HR and 107 RBI. He had 107 BB and just 90 K's. He had a wOBA of .402 and a VORP of 65.9. He is the man.

Railroaders 2023 MVP is now a three time MVP

As much as we look to someone else to be the annual Railroaders MVP, we can't do it. For the third time in a row, Rob Shirey easily led this team to 111 wins and another Federation Cup appearance. He led the league in total bases (352), home runs (42), RBI (130!), runs (131!)and slugging (.569). He was second in walks (97), VORP (65.9) and WAR (7.6). Oh and he hit for .312, 10th in the league.

He is the face of the Railroaders.

Shirey finally not Railroaders MVP

As important as Rob Shirey is to the Railroaders, he was not the most valuable player for the Railoraders in 2024. That player was LF Doug Rosebotham. Without him, I don't think we come through and win the PL North.

Rosebotham had a slash line of 321/388/623 with 45 home runs and 139 RBIs. He hit 396/464/792 with runners in scoring position, which is just insane. He could be counted on day in and day out to lead this team and he did exactly that. Oh, and he had an 11.4 ZR for the season in the outfield with 13 assists!

Rosebotham repeats as MVP

Doug Rosebotham slugged this team to the Federation Cup title this season. In a year were aging veterans like Rob Shirey and Ron Gregory began to show weakness, Rosebotham stayed the course. He hit .327/393/612 this year with 46 HR and 116 RBI. He also had 200 hits on the season.

Without him, we probably don't make the playoffs and have a chance at the Federation Cup.

Shirey returns as MVP

1B Rob Shirey made his triumphant return to MVP status with the Railroaders this past season. He hit a career high 46 home runs and had 117 RBIs. His slash line was 293/391/563 and had a WAR of 7.4, tops on the team.

He really drove the offense to a division crown when early in the season it didn't look like it was possible.

Somehow I missed this, so the 2027 MVP was: Bobby Dodson for a 14-7 record with a 3.31 ERA on a so so team.

But the 2028 MVP is LF Doug Rosebotham, for an eye popping line of 314/381/647 for an OPS of 1.028 and a WAR of 7.2! He hit a career high 49 home runs with 119 RBI along with 34 doubles. He also only struck out 88 times in 635 ABs. The 49 HR are a club record and tied for 11th all time in a single season.

This was a tough year to pick an MVP. I had two players each hit 42 HR's. Another stole 52 bases. Two pitchers each had 15 wins.

But the 2029 MVP is, once again, LF Doug Rosebotham! He hit 307/367/554 for an OPS of 921 with a 6.5 WAR. He also had 36 HR and 31 doubles.
