Title: 2013 Winter Meetings
Post by: mstreeter06 on July 18, 2013, 08:22:11 pm
We will hold our Winter Meetings here. We will discuss any rule changes, improvements, or anything else that needs to be addressed before the 2014 season...

Expansion?
   2015? 2016? 2017? 2018? Wait for now?

Enable DH?
   No? Yes-both leagues? Yes-1 league?

Active Roster and Expanded Roster Size?
No change? Increase, if so how much?

Enable Interleague Play?
   Never? Next year? 2017 (AFBL's 5th year)?

Number games in ML season?
   No change? Add/subtract?

Enable International and/or Independent League FAs?
Never? Enable in 2015? Enable in the future?

Any other changes, thoughts, or suggestions?

I'd be hesitant to expand until there have at least been a few seasons with no team turnover.

DH: fine. It should be in the PL.

No change.

Never (or rarely -- 5th year is too soon)

I've always liked 154 games but whatever. I'd stick with 162 for record keeping now.

Not clear how int'l/indy league FAs would work in a non-financials league.

Expansion?
None at the moment - ensure a good core of active GMs before expending

Enable DH?
I'm going to say no, even though it would help with my two 1Bs

Active Roster and Expanded Roster Size?
   Keep as is

Enable Interleague Play?
An interesting one... I'd quite like to see a 3 game series (or 2 3 game series) against each team in the other league each year, however this would breakup the even number of games against teams in my own league.

Number games in ML season?
Keep as is, especially in the formative years of the league

Enable International and/or Independent League FAs?
As yuda said, not sure how this would work in a non-financial league, wouldn't it just be like claiming free agents? Unless you implemented an Int FA "draft" with a lottery for position.

I think everything is fine as is.

I'd reserve expansion for when you have a waitlist that dictates it.

I agree with everything Chappy said above.

I would say no to expansion until we get a couple seasons in where we don't lose anybody.

I'm indifferent on the DH, prefer no but wouldn't be completely opposed to adding it.

Roster size is perfectly fine.

I'd like to play everyone in the AFBL each season.

162 is a standard, no reason to deviate from that.

It seems to have been a very successful 2013 season.  Hopefully everyone can be competitive in the 2014 season.

The only reason I'd go to 154 is it would give us a balanced schedule (154 / 7 = 22). W a 162-game season every team plays one opponent one extra time.

(Obviously 161 would also be a balanced schedule in terms of number of times playing each team, but you'd have an odd number of games against everybody, so season series would be unbalanced with regards to home field.)

(Also MLB played 154 for a long time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_schedule#Historical_season_schedules). Their primary concern before divisions was a balanced schedule.)

I'm manually entering in the season awards currently and will upload a new file/reports that run us to November 15th in the game which will take us to our Amateur Draft. I'll allow more owners to input about when it will work best (if possible) next week for our live portion of the ammy draft.

I think next year, I'm going to separate the OF defense award vote for each OF spot so we don't have CFers winning a BDA for a position they technically didn't play :).

I agree with the general consensus above, with the following differences:

DH- I would prefer DH as well, but it doesn't really matter too much to me.

Interleague- I think it would be fun to have a couple of interleague matchups each year.

International- I like the idea if there's a way to incorporate it into a draft.

I would like to see the DH at some point.

No real changes for the other questions  needed yet as I see it.

I'm not sure I'd even vote on defensive awards. Unlike hitting and pitching, I actually trust the game more to evaluate defense.

I'd be fine with this for next season. It'd make my job easier :).

Statslab has been updated after today's update. I'll enable the draft module on Statslab so we can begin drafting at our own pace leading up to the live draft. Thanks guys!

Live portion of the 2013 Amateur Draft is complete. Undrafted players become free agents. Claim here on the forum, 1 per 24-hour period.

I'll release a new file tonight to reflect the draft and trades.

Hold off on making any changes or submitting an export until I release tonight's updates. Thanks guys!

Answering in line

Expansion?
   2015? 2016? 2017? 2018? Wait for now?
I am open to this once we have 2-3 seasons with no turnover

Enable DH?
   No? Yes-both leagues? Yes-1 league?
Both leagues
Active Roster and Expanded Roster Size?
No change? Increase, if so how much?
I dont care on this
Enable Interleague Play?
   Never? Next year? 2017 (AFBL's 5th year)?
Sure Don't really care
Number games in ML season?
   No change? Add/subtract?
Maybe do about 15-18 games per team in the main league 9 in the opposite (interleague)
Enable International and/or Independent League FAs?
Never? Enable in 2015? Enable in the future?
Again this is fine
Any other changes, thoughts, or suggestions?
Here's something I want looked at
Okay there is literally 100 players I want. Waiting 100 days we'll be several seasons down the road. Is there anyway we can adjust the FREE AGENT process since they are Free Agents :P

CRAP! Accidentally clicked rollback on a pick in the 3rd round. Shit. Anyone have a screenshot of the draft results or know of any way to undo what I just stupidly did. Damnit sorry!

F F F sorry guys. I hope someone happens to have the results screenshot'd or we have a way to get back the results. Gdamnit.

I really screwed up guys. I apologize. I don't think there was any way to revert the draft picks that we made after I accidentally clicked 'Rollback pick' while scrolling/entering picks into the game. I set everyone to Auto and let the CPU refinish the draft. This was the only fair way. Again, sorry guys.

I'll enter in these results and update the file tonight. Thanks and appreciate the understanding.

No problem Matt.

It was one of those moments in slow motion then a realization of "shit shit shit what did I just do!!  >:( ". Well the redone CPU picked after the mid of the 3rd round is back up in the Statslab draft results.

Again I apologize to those who made all their picks tonight in the live draft portion.

Entering in picks again so I can get a new file up. Thanks!

Good thing the draft was very weak. Double check for undrafted players that are now free agents after the reselection. Sorry again guys  :-\ .

It happens.  At least the first two rounds were good.  Everyone after that is mostly a crapshoot anyway.

No worries from me.

Of the few questions I asked to begin the 2013 Winter Meetings, I see three issues that deserve to stay on our minds for possible incorporation in the future...
I appreciate everyone's input. We'll hold off on any changes for the 2014 season but continue your input and discussion on these issues or anything you can think of to continue to improve our young league!
