Title: 2022 Amateur Draft Discussion
Post by: mstreeter06 on January 20, 2015, 11:30:49 am
I'm working on getting the Ammy Draft ready for Statslab currently. Any draft discussion and thoughts here. Good luck drafting!

North Carolina is free to make their selection whenever either here or wait until Statslab is ready...

Statslab is ready for the draft. Remember that only the first 12 picks are correct.

The rest of the draft order is currently set up with the raw draft order and no trades applied.

North Carolina has made CF Rod Mosley the #1 overall pick.

It was a tough choice; most of the best hitters were terrible defenders and the top pitchers seemed 'meh'.

In the end, Rod Mosley's resume seemed the best among several similarly rated hitters I was considering.

Mosley spent two seasons with the Steamrollers at Fort Wayne College, and in each season he was an All-American (aka All-Star) and he also won the ACOL NC Outstanding Hitter Award in each of his two college seasons.

His position ratings are very average, but scouts like his Range (8), Errors (10) and his Arm is slightly above average (6), so I think he can develop into a pretty good defensive outfielder.

He hit .312 with 75 home runs in 731 college at-bats.  Pretty impressive HR ratio if you ask me.  How well it will carry over to the next level remains to be seen.

For the record, it marks the second year in a row that the Aviators selected an ACOL Outstanding Hitter Award winner with the first round pick.  Last season, we took 1B Kevin Howard, winner of the 2021 ACOL AC Outstanding Hitter Award, which means we now have both leagues' winners from 2021.  Kevin skipped rookie league and A ball and began his pro career at AA Greensboro, where he hit .303 with 8 homers in 27 games before being promoted to AAA, where he smashed 33 homers while batting .276 in 107 games.  He earned a September call-up to the Aviators, where he struggled to a .192 mark at the plate, but he hit 3 more HR in 78 at-bats to finish his first pro season with a combined 44 homers between AA, AAA and the majors.

Idaho selects 2B Loren Dobson.

Dobson is a very hard working 2B with plus power potential. A 2 time High School all star and 1 time best hitter, Dobson should develop into a solid middle infielder for Idaho. He is slated to report to the rookie league team in Jupiter, FL and the organization is excited to follow his development over the next few years.

I have the traded picks entered into Statslab draft order. Double check that everything is correct. Keep in mind that picks 19 and 20 are subject to change pending the Federation Cup results.

We'll move to a serious draft timer clock once we conclude the Federation Cup. Just be sure that you are aware of where we are in the draft so you don't hold the draft hostage when we get moving. Thanks guys!

Still waiting on Iowa to pick at 1-9. Please be ready to pick so you don't hold up the whole draft for the league. Next year we'll do a 24-hour timer for non-playoff teams while we complete the playoffs so we aren't held hostage for days...

Illinois is now up. Draft timer starts at 8am on Monday (1/26). 6 hour draft timer window for the 1st and 2nd rounds that resets after each pick. Please prepare and be ready for your pick. If you know you'll be busy, I beg that you have a list ready or set to auto or send me instructions so you don't hold up the draft for everyone.

My goal is to get the draft completely done by Tuesday, February 3rd!

Sorry for the hold-up, didn't get online over the weekend.

NC takes SP Jake Bane, maybe a bit of a stretch for a 1st rounder but he seems to have an upward trend in development... hopefully he keeps getting better.

We are almost done with the 2nd round (NY at 2-18) but let?s continue to keep things moving! We have to finish the draft by Tuesday, February 3rd. If you won?t be around to be checking on the draft status throughout the day in Statslab, the Forum, or on GroupMe? please have a big enough list ready in Statslab, set yourself to auto, or send me instructions on how to draft for you.

New York (list but empty!) is on the clock for 6 hours followed by Pennsylvania, Indiana (list) [end of 2nd], North Carolina, and Idaho (list).

Great progress today guys. We're almost done with the 3rd round. The 3rd and 4th rounds have a 4 hour timer per draft slot resetting after each pick. 5th and 6th rounds have a 2 hour timer. 7th and 8th rounds have a 1 hour timer. Remember that we need to get the draft completed by Tuesday (2/3) so we can get Spring Training completed by Friday 2/6 then start 2023 on Monday 2/9.

We'll need to redraft from where it accidentally rolled back unless someone can help me get the results of our draft yesterday. I'm so sorry guys. It shouldn't be that easy to accidentally click that especially on your phone.

Undrafted players are free to be claimed now at 1 per real life calendar day (based on Central Time with a new day starting at midnight). Just be aware of undrafted players choosing to go back to school between the end of the draft and our newest file. I'll process any successful claims before our next sim on Wednesday 2/4.
