Title: 2015 Draft Thread
Post by: mstreeter06 on November 04, 2013, 07:05:51 am
We can begin the 2015 Amateur Draft while the playoffs continue. Draft pick trades are allowed and player trades are opened up to non-playoff teams.

The Kentucky Lions with the #1 overall pick are free to make their selection here in this thread and teams following. I'll be deciding who will pick 5th between Indiana and Ontario who have the same record but no head-to-head being in different leagues.

We'll draft here in this thread until the playoffs conclude where we'll then move to Statslab then our live draft night (end of this week or sometime next week during the work week at night).

Statslab draft pool (sortable and where we'll draft): http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/StatsLab/draftWarroom.php
HTML Reports draft pool batters: http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/reports/news/html/leagues/league_100_rookie_draft_pool_batter_report.html

I doubt we'll be able to have our live portion of the Amateur Draft this week unless we zoom through the reminder of the playoffs so what nights next week (11/11 - 11/14) will work for everyone?

Actually picks 1-4 (Kentucky, California, Iowa, New York) can make their selection in Statslab if they wish to. Either place will be fine until we finish the playoffs.

The 13th I have an event until 9 and the 14th I am in Chicago, not sure what time I will be bale to get home (thinking 8 or 9). If those are the best dates for everyone else I will make it work.

Statslab has the correct draft order entered (pending the final 2 picks in each round) with the draft picks traded from this past season. Selections should be made in the draft utility of Statslab.

How does Monday night (11/11) around 7 or 8pm CT for the live portion of the Ammy Draft to finish whatever we have left?

Another possibility is that we don't have a live draft with how spread out we are over the world. We could conduct the draft how we did the Initial Draft. Turn on the draft timer with a draft slot time window.

Maybe start out with a 4-8 hour time slot for the 1st round and have the draft window time slot adjusted after a few rounds? Thoughts?

I'm flexible either way. I also like the live draft portion too.

I'm not sure of the need to draft live, the most important bits of a draft are the first 1-3 rounds, we start that in staslab anyway, so no point drafting live for rounds 4 onwards.

Suggest you put a draft timer on now though matt - 10 hour timer or similar should be fine for everyone. And then reduce the time as we get through the rounds or up to the date when the players need to be in game.

We're going to go with running the entire Amateur Draft in Statslab offline using the draft timer with pick selection time windows since it's shown tough to find a good time to get everyone together for a live chatroom and draft. Here's how I'll conduct the draft...

-6 hour draft window for the 1st and 2nd round with the 6 hour clock adjusting after each pick
-4 hour draft window in the 3rd and 4th round
-2 hour draft window (possibly smaller window) in the 5th, 6th, and 7th rounds to finish the draft
-Draft clock runs from 8:00 CST until 20:00 CST during the week with the timer pausing on the weekend
-I'll adjust the draft window past the 4th round after we finish the 2nd round (Statslab restriction) so don't look too far ahead as an accurate draft pick time window
-I'll try to send updates to the team up, on deck, and 3rd in line as much as possible.
-If you'll be away from the computer due to work/family/school, set up a draft queue list in Statslab, not the game or send me instructions via email/PM.

We are currently at the #5 overall pick which is Indiana. The Vipers are on the clock until 2:00pm CT tomorrow (11/6/13). Thanks for the understanding guys. Please voice any questions or concern here or to me in an email/PM.

David (PA) just messaged me a few minutes after his deadline pick at 2pm about his eventful morning. We might rollback to his pick (the CPU pick for him at 9 and Ohio's list pick at 10) if he wants to. Just an update!

Not to sound tough, but isn't that why we have a timer and lists - if someone gets auto'd they had a 6 hour warning on things?

Also couldn't someone (not suggesting at all that David is doing this) see who the teams after them draft and then pick one of those guys?

We're all good to go. David was cool with the CPU pick.

Currently at 12th overall which is my 1st round pick. Potential deals being discussed so likely going close to the deadline  8).

I went ahead and just made a manual best-overall selection for Oregon to keep things moving.

We're at Kentucky for the final pick of the 1st round. 6 hour draft windows through the 2nd round with the clock resetting with each pick and runs from 8am to 8pm CT.

But yes, trading is tough in a no financials league as no one wants to get rid of their top talent unless they get other top talent coming in.

New file/reports updated. I assigned Marek to Oregon and created Raymond to join the other 3 expansion owners. I'm updating Statslab currently.

I'll email the new owners their password for the game/Statslab individually if not already done so. Let me know if you have any trouble getting the AFBL file loaded into your OOTP14 game.

New file/reports are up which include 2015 Season Awards and the 2015 Ammy Draft results up through Ohio's 5th round pick (5-10).

We have to finish the draft by tomorrow afternoon/evening (11/12) so I can enter the remaining 2.5 rounds and release a new file/reports in time for everyone to get an export in before the 1st half of Spring Training on Wed (11/13). If we need to we can push the 1st half of ST to Thursday and continue with 2nd half of ST on Friday.
