Title: 2016 Draft Thread
Post by: mstreeter06 on January 02, 2014, 08:39:32 am
We can begin the 2016 Amateur Draft in Statslab while the playoffs continue. Draft pick trades are allowed and player trades are opened up to non-playoff teams.

The New York Brewers with the #1 overall pick are free to make their selection in Statslab when they are ready!

We will be able to draft until we reach the playoff teams. Feel free to discuss things related to the draft and its pool of players here as we begin the playoffs and prepare for the longer offseason with the AFBL expanding to 20 teams!

As soon as the Brewers go I am ready. He could also trade me that pick if he likes :P

I am still open to trading for more picks.

Joel let me know who New York was selecting #1 overall with SP Jon Simms.

Arizona has made their selection at #2.

Ontario is now on the clock followed by California, Iowa, Pennsylvania.

We are currently at #8 overall with Illinois who will have its new owner, Raymond, taking over. I'll send him a heads up and get the draft moving along.

I'll be turning on a draft slot timer that will start likely tomorrow so we can finish the Ammy Draft sooner than later.

Should we try to hold a live draft for the Ammy Draft or should we just hold it all in Statslab on a draft slot time limit?

I'm all for getting as much done through statslab, but being in Aus and a crazy time zone right now I'm biased ;)

Yeah we are fairly spread out throughout the world. I'm cool with using solely Statslab with a draft slot timer.

Tony Hernandez is gonna be a stud if he gets to potential. Stolen base records over here

Interesting pick Troy, with so much talent still around in the draft I bet we'll all be hoping those first round picks don't bomb, of which I'm sure at least half will.

I am using the same draft strategy I used 2 years ago. That draft has FIVE starters on my team now. It has to work....

Yeah they flopped here too :D

Garlez was poor in the playoffs (he hit .192) and Fowler only hit .227. But I have to be honest, Ohio's pitching really shackled our hitters when it mattered.

You just work them too hard in the playoffs thats why you are 0-4 years :)

Please don't remind me, I'm seeing Geboyan's ratings drop as well as a couple of our starters and am wondering how long this group will stay as productive and competitive as they currently are.

But I WILL get Sepulveda and Garlez at least one championship before their careers are up, it would be a travesty if they didn't win at least one.

Texas must be working or asleep or something...

sorry!! Tony Hernandez is similar to Chad Tucker (at least in potential)

Interesting pick Troy, with so much talent still around in the draft I bet we'll all be hoping those first round picks don't bomb, of which I'm sure at least half will.

The toughest thing in this draft will be to avoid those bombs. For example, I dont understand why Phil Baker has arrived to me (13th pick). He is an SP with 8/8/8, durable (which in this league seems the most important thing to me  >:( >:( >:(), he has 4 pitches and 2 of them with a potential 9

Do I miss something bad about him??  :o

No you did not miss anything bad - he was #3 on my list, so I'm glad you took him so I can get my #1!!

RF Bobby Thomas (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/reports/news/html/players/player_2642.html) - welcome to New Jersey!!

Oh and Ontario is on the clock and we're nearly done with round 1!

Ontario is definitely up, they have 3 of the next 4 picks, and NY is on a list pick in between those picks.

It shows NY as up with 'list pick', so either it is stuck or he has no more players on his list.

I came VERY close to taking him, but in the end, I went with an offensive player because 4/5 of my rotation is set for the next 5-10 years while I have 2 or 3 aging offensive players.

Yeah he's out of players on his list. I've emailed him last night to give him plenty of time to make a pick before his window runs out at 2pm CT.

Made 2nd round pick, but getting that "error, you do not manage team 4 and are not logged in as a commissioner" message so just wanted to be sure it went through.

I think it was a false alarm in terms of the error. It will happen from time to time like Frank mentioned. Sorry for the panic to those affected haha.

I don't think this was the draft to miss, there's some really nice talent in there, hopefully it'll make up for the 15 players we're each going to lose in the expansion draft.

I'll be predicting tonight who I think I'm going to lose and see if I'm right.

Yeah very true about that. Although a championship makes it worth it  ;).

I'm regretting our trade though. Elvis Lowe was garbage for Colorado haha.

I got RF Rosebotham (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/reports/news/html/players/player_2694.html) out of it, will see how he turns out. If he reaches his potential and gets a small bump in his contact he'll be a star in this league.

You might have seen an error message in Statslab after making a selection or something, this seems to be a false error after it goes through a string of auto/list picks. No need to worry.

Yeah if you just delete the exact address in your browser so that it looks like this "http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/statslab/draftBoard.php" you'll get to the draft page fine.

I'll be wiping the 2016 ammy draft from StatsLab to set up the expansion draft Tuesday or Wednesday.  We won't lose any draft history as that's all stored in OOTP, but we will lose the team war room and the StatsLab draft board views.  If you want to grab any of that, get it now.  Otherwise, the draft history in StatsLab will keep track of the actual results as entered into OOTP.  If none of this makes sense, assume you don't care. ;)
