Title: 2019 Draft Discussion Thread
Post by: mstreeter06 on July 04, 2014, 08:48:38 am
Any Ammy Draft discussion and picks will be here! I'll get Statslab ready this weekend (likely today) and let everyone know when we move from here in the forum to Statslab.

Georgia has the #1 overall pick for the 2019 Ammy Draft (GA and IA finished with the same record but GA went 3-1 against IA during the season so it gets rewarded with the higher pick). and is free to pick whenever they are ready. Iowa, Idaho, Washington, and Maryland round out the top 5 picks.

We're good to go in Statslab for the draft. Georgia can kick us off whenever!

We'll start a draft timer beginning on Tuesday morning at 8am (figure it'll be more fair to give everyone a full week day warning before starting the timer).

When 2018 ended I had no idea what I was going to do about getting quality middle infielders as they are hard to come by in the draft. A year later I have Steve Baker drafted and MacIntosh as my lead off hitter and SS. Not too bad.

Ya and I have drafted Jeff Padgett 27 SS for Virgina, Tommy Holm 21 SS Washington, Chris MacIntosh 21 SS New York, Ben Foley 24 Ontario. As you see 3 of the 4 are STARS I should have kept 1 of them dam I need a SS now :( lucky you

With the first pick, I went with the Pitcher I felt had the best upside and potential for reaching it.  Kel Walden.  With my system needs, going young will hopefully be better for my future.

Baker 2B was my second choice and a sure thing top of the order #1/2 bat.

Just wish you had gotten back to me. I would have paid well for that pick. You could have had a better SP and 2b for the 1 pick.

I have 3 1st rd picks, 2 2nd and 2 3rd. I'd like to trade them all for picks next year. Would listen to players too.

I was actually glad when I saw Simmons was pitching well for you, when I looked recently. I was glad we both had benefits from the deal.

Funny you mention that, those were my top 2 choices as well. Great pick with Kel. He should be an ace.

I'm less certain what to do going forward with what amounts to 3 lead off type of hitters so I'll likely just load the top of my order with speed and contact with MacIntosh, Thomas and Baker and then get to the RBI guys.

Baker was my third choice. I wanted and needed the only CF in this draft, Klebel. Walden was the clear #1 in my opinion.

Yeah a lot of time it comes down to need. I would have loved an ace so Walden was a wish list kind of thing but knew I wasn't getting him. Need dictated 2B for me.

I had a list of 3 guys I wanted. They all went ahead of me.

This is my first year in the league, but is this draft class......underwhelming?

I was going to say this was better than the past few. Lots of developmental types available.

We have had a few bad draft classes this has been under discussion in Off-season topic in OOTP 15 the draft class should be much better but dont worry it will be mentioned it makes picks less valuable

Ya I was glad he was able to pitch well finally he was struggling at the start of the season but he should help my pen in Post season

This class is better than 2017 and 2018 but still fairly week. Next year and beyond should be much better. This is the final class before the first 4 year cycle of the feeder leagues. Something that I have my eye on.

Why I traded back this year?

SP Steve Vincent (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/reports/news/html/players/player_4305.html) (HS)

And probably next year too?

SP Jeremy Emery (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/reports/news/html/players/player_5085.html) (COL)
3B Mike Garza (http://www.afblbaseball.com/afbl/reports/news/html/players/player_5158.html) (COL)

I'm one to plan out for 5-6 years down the road, so scouting draft classes way ahead of time is always important for me!

I am in a pretty solid spot. I have two in the first round next year and moved up this year to fill a need. Still a strong place to be.

We are currently at #12 overall which is now the property of Iowa.

New York, Texas, Illinois are on deck!

The draft timer will start up on Thursday morning (7/10) at 8am CT with a 6 hour draft slot window for the 1st and 2nd rounds. Please be prepared and plan accordingly so we aren't held up for long periods of time. Thanks guys!
