I'll be creating a specific section on the forum for our future expansion but wanted to give everyone a quick update of where we're at and my current plans...

-currently have 1 for sure and registered owner (Paul from NPBL, NDK-Paul forum name)
-2 others have expressed interest but still need to hear back to confirm
-plan is to expand from our current 16 franchises to 20
-current owners will have first option to become an expansion team owner before our potential new owners
-goal is to expand for the 2017 season but it's looking like that it will need to wait for the 2018 season
-specifics about how the Expansion Draft will be decided once we have 4 solid new owners

I'm excited about our future and thankful for everyone that's made our first nearly 3 seasons a fun and big success! Thanks guys!
A league i was in just folded i will send a e-mail out to if any one has intrest if that helps. some good owners were in that league commish just couldnt keep up.

Awesome thanks! If any are interested have them email me. I hope to find 4 solid future owners so we can begin to plan the next steps for expansion.

We don't count records from 'minor league' teams like New Jersey.   :P

We got you guys 15-8 in the regular season so hopefully we can make it through the first round. Hopefully we don't meet Ohio, they've had our number this year, and surprisingly Ontario also has a chance to have a winning record against us this year - ouch that would really hurt.

After going 3-19 against you last year your 4 runs in the ninth couldn't put you over the top, and my boys know there is some good stuff on the line if we can win the next 2 games, i dont care if we lose the rest of the sim just against NJ we need wins. and it looks like Ed Sexon Jr. has padded his Rookie of the year (hopefully) stats with 4 game HR streak and now sits at 31 on the season, my team still has the least runs scored all season :( so his 83 RBIs is a plus.

We need the sweep of NJ to have a winning rec but for the first time in 3 years i have a winnign rec against OHIO i need one win to have a wining rec at season end but with PA and OH vs me to end the year thos games could be very important in the playoff race and i have 11-9 vs OH and 9-11 vs PA so i could end the season for one team maybe.

Interesting "race" for the #1 draft pick as California & Kentucky are 61-93, and NY & Iowa are 62-92.

Inexplicably, we took 2-of-3 from Oregon so we are 8-11 against them this year. If we sweep the 4-game series that ends the season we'll win the Battle for the Branch! :)

Yeah, my team always seems to play decent toward the end of the season, just enough to cost me that #1 pick, lol.

I'm excited about our future and thankful for everyone that's made our first nearly 3 seasons a fun and big success! Thanks guys!

We have now 2 solid commitments for our future expansion (Paul: NDK-Paul, Frank: fhomess). I have another person who expressed interest a few weeks ago but haven't gotten a solid yes so we'll need at least 1 more owner.

As we discussed during the 2014 Winter Meetings, we're going to have our future owners become involved with league discussions/votes/etc as they feel fit to do so.

I believe that the 2018 season will likely be our first season playing with 20 teams unless the league feels that the 2017 season will be feasible which I doubt. We're getting closer to start planning our next steps in the process!

Going back through our first 3 seasons, it looks like we finish a season (beginning of Spring Training until end of the Federation Cup Series) in roughly 7-8 weeks. This would put the 2018 season at around March 2014 or so for our future owners.

Again, I'm all for going with the majority of the league's opinions. We'll discuss further during the 2015 Winter Meetings. Thanks guys!

If you have guys locked in and the current GMs are going nowhere, no reason why 2017 couldn't be the expansion year in my eyes.

4-5 months might be a long time for those waiting in the wings to wait for and they go off and join other leagues... just a thought.

Agreed if we get enough owners now even 2016 might be a possibliy because waiting for a league then another one starts up an they join it, but dont have time for this one or join this one but arnt active enough, then the search is on again for owners. I guess this is the big topic for winter mettings this year.

Like I've said before, I'd love to go with 2017 for expansion but only if we have a majority for that. I agree that the 5-6 months wait wouldn't be ideal for our future expansion team owners.

I am down with expansion whenever. Not sure how much needs to be worked out before expansion can be done - that would be my only concern.

The biggest decisions for whenever expansion happens...

-how we'll determine which players will be available during the expansion draft
-the expansion draft process (looking at past NPBL history for their expansions as a guide but not the law)
-how to realign the league with the 4 expansion teams (1 sub league no division or 2 divisions per sub league per conference, etc)
-plus whatever I've overlooking typing this

IMO there's only merits in having divisions within a sub-league if you have an unbalanced schedule where you play your division rivals more than others in the sub-league.

Seeing as AFBL is a non-financial league determining who is available during an expansion draft will likely be trickier I imagine.

I suspect you would end up with being able to protect 15-20 players on the 25 man roster plus X number from your minor leagues aged under 23 or something.

One problem with expansion currently though, there are not enough players in the universe to expand by 4 teams - there are only 177 FA's, when 4 new organizations will need a total of 500 players to fill up 25 men on each of their rosters.

I think the player number question is the key one as you can't just create new players, unless they are young ones and add them to the world for the sake of expansion (it woudl seem unrealistic to all of a sudden see 20+ 3*plus guys enter the league aged 24 or older.

I thought you didn't need to keep your minors filled there are Jim Unknowns pitching and hitting so your minors could technically be empty?
