Arizona Takes 2-1 Series Lead with Walk-off Win
|
The Arizona Vipers nearly wasted a strong game from starter Frank Salerno, but were saved by some timely hitting in a 9th inning walk-off win over the Oregon Explorers today.
Salerno pitched well in the 4-3 win at The Snake Pit. He threw 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball. The win allowed Arizona to seize a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 Wildcard Series.
The Vipers were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when three-time All-Star Jose Moreno landed a big blow. He turned a 1-0 fastball from Ben Kaiser into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the The Snake Pit denizens into a frenzy and sent the Vipers home with a thrilling 4-3 win.
"We couldn't have scripted it any better," Moreno said in his postgame press conference.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Snake Pit in Phoenix.
