Pennsylvania Ruins Terrific Game by Ding
|
The Pennsylvania Railroaders got a sterling performance from right fielder Henry Ding, but the New York Empire still prevailed, 11-7. Ding hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4. The win gives New York a record of 1-1.
New York relied on the hitting of Joe Thompson to pick up the win. The third baseman ripped a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Empire on top, 8-7. For the game, Thompson had 1 triple and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Richard Hager.
