Yellowhammers Suffer 6-5 Home Defeat
|
The Ontario Blue Pirates locked up a win at Madison County Grounds, knocking off the Alabama Yellowhammers, 6-5. On the mound for Ontario was right-hander Taylor Novak. He played a major role in the triumph. Novak got the win, improving to 2-1. He gave up 6 hits and walked 2 over 7.2 innings. He allowed 5 runs. Rich Webb was called on to finish, recording his 4th save.
Jesus Capistran, who led the PL in home runs with 39 last year, helped out the Ontario cause in the top of the third inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the right fielder went 1 for 2 with 2 walks.
"Really good pitchers have that ability to raise their game when they need to," said Ontario manager Shaun Young.
The win brings the Blue Pirates to 9-15, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
