New Jersey Beats New York, 5-4
|
The New Jersey Athletics topped the New York Empire, 5-4, in Patriot League action at The Empire. The standout performance belonged to New Jersey pitcher and Santa Monica, California, native Glen Duncan. Duncan, the winner, moves to 4-2. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 5 walks. The first-place Athletics have a one-game lead in their division.
Roman Contreras's at-bat in the top of the fourth was significant for the Athletics. Coming to the plate with the bases loaded and New Jersey trailing 1-0, the Athletics third baseman hit a 2-run single.
"I felt good up there," said Contreras. "I saw the ball well."
