Empire Suffer One-Run Loss at New Jersey
|
The New Jersey Athletics beat the New York Empire, 5-4. New Jersey pitcher and Hastings, Minnesota, native Jeff Beigel led the way. In 6.1 innings, Beigel surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. New Jersey goes to 30-33, New York to 28-35.
The Athletics got a gift in the bottom of the eighth inning, when they were leading 4-1. With two out and runners on 1st and 3rd, Jerry Ayala reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run. It made the score 5-1, New Jersey.
"Anyone who says he's not out there thinking about personal accomplishments is not telling the truth," Ayala said later.
