Warhawks Edged by Outlaws, 10-6
|
Outlaws second baseman Eddie Guerrero left his mark on his team's 10-6 win over the Illinois Warhawks. Guerrero, who finished 2nd in the FL in triples with 12 in 2064, went 3-4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for Texas in the contest. Reliever Jon Gomez picked up the win. His record improves to 5-2. Robby Hess, who is a three-time All-Star, took the loss. With this game in the books, Texas is 33-35, Illinois 28-40.
Texas used the timely hitting of Pat Gulla to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Outlaws on top, 8-6. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Outlaws manager Andrew Cole wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
