The New York Empire faced a tough opponent in Ontario pitcher Jon Bennett, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Farmers Market Stadium by a final score of 5-3. Bennett went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs. Ralph Johns got the win, improving to 5-2. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 3. Mark Davidson earned his 20th save in 22 chances.

Randy Bell, the 24-year old third baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Bell contributed a run-scoring triple in the top of the second inning to put New York up, 2-1.

"Enjoyed this one," Bell told the New York Times. "But it's back to work tomorrow."

With the win, the Empire hiked their record to 42-38.
