The Maryland Bridegrooms stopped the New York Empire, 5-4, at The Empire. The Bridegrooms got a big game from Juan Cruz, who was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Nathan Stone, the winning pitcher, improved to 10-5. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 9 and walking 3. Matt French notched his 23rd save in 26 chances.
Maryland took a 5-2 lead on Cruz's 1st double of the season. The run-scoring double, which he hit off Ben Montoya in the top of the eighth, propelled Maryland to the win.
"We found a way to get it done," Cruz said.
