Athletics Suffer 5-2 Loss to Washington
|
The Washington Resonance got a stellar performance from pitcher Mike Aviles, who handcuffed the New Jersey offense en route to a win, 5-2, at The Boom Box. The winning pitcher was Aviles, now 7-7. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 7. Masanori Hayashi got credit for the save for Washington. It was his 29th of the year.
In the bottom of the eighth, Washington catcher Matt Dewitt had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Dewitt stroked a 2-run single to right. It made the score 5-2, Washington. For the game, he went 2 for 4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Washington skipper Larry Gomberg.
The Athletics, now 53-45, have lost 4 in a row.
