The Minnesota Mallards got a stellar performance from pitcher Brian McGruder, who handcuffed the Illinois offense en route to a win, 4-2, at Dylan Park at Hennepin. McGruder went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 5-7. Ben Kaiser earned the save, his 14th, for the Mallards.
The Mallards got a big at-bat from catcher Marco Sandoval. For the game, Sandoval went 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Minnesota a 3-1 lead.
"We put together a nice win," Sandoval said.
After today's action, Minnesota sits at 49-51, while Illinois falls to 36-64.
