Railroaders Edge Past Yellowhammers, 3-2
|
The Pennsylvania Railroaders needed 12 innings to beat the Alabama Yellowhammers, 3-2, at Madison County Grounds. The win was due in part to shortstop José Cardenas, who went 4 for 5 with 4 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to fireballing 6' 6" right-hander Lysander Kalergi in relief. His record improves to 3-4. Joel Burgess took the loss. Xu Ti earned the save, his 5th in 8 tries.
Pennsylvania used a timely hit from Luis Martinez to get the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 12th inning to put the Railroaders ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Tough ballgame, tough loss," said Alabama manager Larry Link.
The last-place Yellowhammers dropped to 44-61.
