Maryland Dismisses New Jersey, 4-2
|
The Maryland Bridegrooms faced a tough opponent in New Jersey pitcher Danny Garza, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Johnson & Johnson Field by a final score of 4-2. Garza went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Tony Perez, the winning pitcher, is now 7-10. He went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, while fanning 2 and walking 4. The loss makes New Jersey 40-68.
Maryland used a clutch hit from Tim Grant to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Bridegrooms ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"A great team win and something real positive we can build on," said Grant after the game.
