The New York Empire got a stellar effort from pitcher Ralph Johns, helping New York score a win over the visiting Maryland Bridegrooms, 6-2. The win lifted the New York record to 64-56.
Had Ludovic Baud not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Baud hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Empire.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Baud said after the game.
