Bridegrooms Take Down Vipers, 2-1
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Maryland Bridegrooms and the Arizona Vipers, pitcher Chris Meeker was the difference between victory and defeat. The Maryland right-hander earned accolades in the 2-1 Bridegrooms win. Matt French, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 33rd save. The third-place Bridegrooms have won 4 straight.
Had Art Burke not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Burke hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Bridegrooms.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Meeker said.
