Athletics Take Tight Tilt
|
Getting an impressive start from Glen Duncan, New Jersey beat Idaho by the score of 2-1. Duncan picked up the win for New Jersey, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 6-12. The save was credited to Jim Schlenker, his 26th.
New Jersey left fielder Joe Swanson contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball into right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 36th hit of the season and put the Athletics ahead, 2-1.
Afterward, Athletics manager was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
The 'W' lifts New Jersey's record to 50-85.
