Warhawks Pick Up 4-2 Road Win Over Alabama
|
The Illinois Warhawks topped the Alabama Yellowhammers, 4-2, at Madison County Grounds. Illinois left fielder Todd Schwerdt was a spark plug for the offense. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Illinois currently is in last place in the Frontier League East at 51-84.
With Illinois trailing 2-1 in the top of the fifth, Schwerdt hit a fastball from Greg Kelley for a 3-run home run. It was his 14th home run of the season and put the Warhawks ahead, 4-2.
After the game, Illinois manager Steven Luker applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
