Railroaders Come Up Short at New Jersey, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring clash between New Jersey and Pennsylvania, pitcher Éric Rossi was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned accolades in the 3-2 win. Jim Schlenker notched his 30th save in 34 chances. With the victory, the Athletics record now stands at 64-80.
Joe Powell dealt the Railroaders a blow in the bottom of the second. Batting with the bases loaded and New Jersey trailing 1-0, Powell, who is a two-time All-Star, hit a full count curveball for a 2-run single.
Pennsylvania manager Mike Kritikos said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
