The Minnesota Mallards, despite a fine performance by Illinois pitcher Dennis Ackerstrom, grabbed a 3-2 win at Todd Berry Memorial Field. Ackerstrom allowed 2 runs over 5.1 innings. Jon Hopkins, now 3-3, was credited with the win in 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. Jeremy McKenna earned his 4th save in 10 tries.

Minnesota used a timely hit from Brian Sanford to get the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mallards ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Illinois manager Steven Luker. "We just didn't cash in."

With the win, the Mallards have a record of 82-74.
