"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus," van Uffelen recalled later. "He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location." van Uffelen yielded 2 hits and had 9 strikeouts and 2 walks in the standout performance. "I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," New York manager Richard Hager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
