Laing Torches Rage for 5 Hits
After a 5-hit effort to lead Miami Beach's 34-6 victory over the Kissimmee Rage, second baseman Mitch Laing told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Liberty League-level is really something special."

The 20-year-old player earned his accolades at Pelican Park with a spectacular 5-for-7 game against the Rage.

"His swing is getting there," said Expos skipper , who spoke glowingly of Laing after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Mitch did that to perfection."

Mitch Laing hit an RBI double in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit a three-run double in the 4th, walked in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.

This year, Laing has hit at a .325 clip with 47 RBIs, 13 home runs and 27 runs scored.
